KIDNEYS-- If it aint one thing its another

2 weeks ago I had to visit my PCP (primary care physician ) for my semi annual check up or tune up or what ever he does. He ordered a CBC and a fasting CMP blood work------- same stuff that my ONC orders all of the time. (except for the fasting part) so between these 2 Drs I'm getting stuck twice for the same blood work. Actually on the same day-- twice 'cause the PCP wanted a second test done on the same day I was to see my ONC.
They both have the same results from different labs and both thought that I should see a Kidney doctor 'cause the blood work said so.

My ONC, being the smarter of the 2 decided that HE would order the prelimary tests that a kidney Dr would do. Routine "P" test (ya think that my PCP would have done that as a part of my routine semi-annual) and an ultra sound of my kidneys. Friday I had both the "P" test and the ultra sound done. "P" test @ ONC's office and ultrasound @ hospital.

Today my PCP's office called me and said that he wanted me to have an ultrasound done----------told her it was done on Friday. She looked at the chart and said OH ,,,,, yes it's OK,,,now we need some urine.----------- Told her to call my ONC for the "P" test results.

Why don't these people talk to each other????????????

This is Toooooooo much fun.

SOooooooo what is it that shows up in a CMP that says your kidneys are in trouble ???????
I don't pee into my blood--- or do I ?

    Glad to see you!
Hi Bill, you have been missed! Sorry your docs felt they needed to stick you twice in the same day for the same tests, that just seems wrong! From what you wrote it sounds like everything came back okay though correct? Might be a good idea to get copies of the reports just incase they want to do these tests again in the near future.

I see my onco in two weeks, should be okay we shall see. Really good to hear from you, please don't stay away so long pop in now and then.

    This blood test shows kidney
This blood test shows kidney function, liver function and other stuff. They may have seen an area that is elevated. As far as blood in your urine, it can be gross (where it is visible to the naked eye pink or red), small, trace or none. So you could, and I emphasize could, have blood and not know it. I am sure that something on the blood tests made them want a urine test. And there are many causes for blood in urine (cancer is only one of them). Are you diabetic? I think that your panels of blood tests would show that also. I have blood in my urine all the time. Because I have had bladder cancer, they always do a cystocopy to check it out. I am having a kidney ultrasound tomorrow. My cystocopy was fine but I have frequent, as in almost continous bladder infections, so my urologist wants a look at my kidneys. He hasn't done this in 2 years so it is time. I am a diabetic so the infections could be from my blood sugars and I am also having some kidney function problems. Not serious but needs to be watched. When will you have your ultrasound results? Please keep us posted. I hope that this is a big fat nothing. Sorry your doctors don't coordinate this stuff better. Mine always look online to see what tests have been done so that this doesn't happen. I also get the results of my routine blood work and urine tests sent to me online. I can even chart past results and see the pattern of these tests.
In any event, I have you in my prayers.

    Tests
Bill, I don't understand myself why there is so little communication. Probably would be better if the docs were getting the sticks! At least your insurance is paying. It sounds as if the test results were ok--is that right? I hope so....

RE and Steff, I will be hoping and praying for good test results for you both as well.

    Hey Bill....
Glad to hear from you. I know everyone has been thinking about you lately. Your right, better communication is the key. I am fortunate that ALL my team, which includes my PCP, will fax a copy of anything they did to all of the others as soon as they get the results. That way if our appointments cross paths, it's already in my chart. I made a list of each Doctor on my team for each of them and asked that reports, findings, and upcoming test be communicated asap. They were all happy to comply as not to subject me to duplicate procedures. Maybe print a sheet you can give each of them on your next visit and ask that they do this. Fax are instant, so you know it will be in your chart by your next visit!! :) Pammy

It's a good idea to get the test results sent to you also and if you see another doctor you can give them a copy and not have to go through duplicate tests. I did this for a dermatologist and gave her the test results that the PCP had me get so she didn't have to repeat it. They don't coordinate so I guess we have to for them.

    Hello, Bill!
Good to see you here, though sorry for your troubles. Hope all is well now.

Check in more often - when we don't hear from you for a long time, causes worry.

    Kind regards, Susan
