Finally Checking in after Surgury

Glad the news was good...sorry about the re-incision (correct spelling!).

Every single bit of my breast tissue, both sides, was scraped clean before they put implants under my chest muscles, so there was nothing to go back for on me either. But it certainly sounds as if you're in good company, and your attitude is great, so keep up the good work!

Was all set to start Radiation (had simulation & got tattooed) when my Rads Oncologist said we really needed to wait on the BRCA Gene test to come back before we begin. Seems if it is positive, I would have a 43% chance of cancer in the other breast, he will recommend a double mastectomy before he ever did Radiation. I think that would be so I could have reconstruction. So I am on hold once again waiting on results which should be about another 10 days. Uggh....:) Pammy

I'm feeling much better today, I finally got a decent nights sleep, after having the tube taken out yesterday evening, but I'm getting ahead of myself here..... let me go back alittle

I saw my Surgoen yesterdeay and had the tube out,,,,,,,,,,yippy yippy yea yea!!!!. I can't believe that whole thing was in me, it was uncomfortable to have taken out ... but jeez I feel great now.

We talked about the re-incission and she said not to expect to much visual change at the surgury site, she said that she only had a 1mm clean margin on the site closest to the skin and would prefer something closer to 3mm or even 5mm, but she told me not to worry she said the chances of any cancer being found by the re-incission was close to nil and that she would be really surprised if anything came back positive, It is really just a pre-caution she would like to take. So that made me fell good.

I also talked to her about the blood draws, blood pressure cuffs and IV's that can't be done on the affected arm. And she said that in my case being that only 5 nodes were removed and because I was so lucky to have good news reguarding my surgury and cancer, that I should not really have to worry about this kind of a problem or Lymphodema, she said that my nodes were not deep enough and that I have enough left to protect me...........I'm kind of a bit leery of her response because of all that was said on the other thread.........but I do feel confident about her skills, she's a very positive and understanding Doctor and is happy to spend as much time as I need answering questions.

I think for me that I might feel better being very cautious with my surgury arm and maybe bringing up this subject again with my oncologist. (Which I have finally been referred too)

My Surgeon said that I should hear from the Onco (Dr Fisher) within the next 10 days for an appointment, so meanwhile I am back to work starting topmorrow, I was going to go back today but thought a little more rest might do me sopme good.

Anyway thanks again for all the warms wishes, I'll keep you posted
