edited March 2014 in Colorectal Cancer #1
My husband had colorectal cancer with colostomy surgery 9/06..followed by 2 plus years of chemo. In Feb at Vandy he had 4% of his right lung removed and they got all the cancer there. Then on April 30 he had 75% of his right liver removed. His CEA on 6/7/09 was 226.1 the doctor was pleased it had gone down from the above 1000 mark before last surgery. Just got back from Vanderbilt for another reck. CEA was down to 39.6 on 7/8/09 and CT scan showed no cancer. Taking it a day at a time ....Goes back again in Sept to have reck with surgeon and oncologist ...another CEA will be done then. After being told in Sept of 2006 there was no hope maybe two years with chemo...still going strong..keep on keeping on...enjoying each and every day. Was able to go on Vacation to see family in TEXAS ...There is always hope. Prayers help.

    Thank you All
Thank each of you for your thoughts and encouraging words. You will never know how much help and support you were to me when I first came to this site. You have helped us make it this far...we have hope and great doctors who continue to be postive and have plans even if the cancer does return. We are so blessed to have met each of you and appreciate each of you. No one understands what it is like unless they have faced the monster or like me have someone who you love face it. We pray for all of you and hope that you recieve the good news we have received. We do not know what tomorrow will bring ...no man knows...not even doctors...but we all can make the most of each and every hour of each and every day. You know how strong I feel about getting second..third opinions. Some doctors just settle ...we found doctors at Vandy who care and are willing to fight the fight with you even if the odds are against you. My husband is living proof that agressive treatment and caring doctors make a big difference. From no hope ...nothing left to try..to CEA down from highest of 16,000 plus to after two surgeries is now 39.6 and nothing showing on the scan. We are so thankful for each of you. Keep fighting...
    Hugs,
    Anna
