A little over a week ago, I shared that my sister-in-law, Linda Penny, had been diagnosed with a glioblastoma, a brain tumor. Your prayers were welcome and the family appreciates your concern. Linda died this morning at her home in Lawrence, Kansas. Despite surgery, the tumor was too involved and it took her quickly. The doctor suggested she move home and have hospice care as the end would come quickly. How quickly, no one knew. The good news is that we didn't suffer for long and her family was all there with her when she died.

We are all surprised how quickly she went from a completely normal person to death. This is a really wicked form of cancer.

    Hi, Trainer
    We've never spoken yet, but I believe I had passed along best wishes to the thread you posted.

    I just wanted to pass along my deepest sympathy to you and your family and sincerest condolences to you and your family for the loss of your sister-in-law.

    That's scary stuff...I want to thank you for sharing that information and I praying for strength for your family during this difficult time.

    Thanks for your note. It's ironic that the 4th of July was Linda's favorite holiday and she'd go all out decorating the house and yard in flags, bunting and red, white and blue. For her to die on this day just means the family will rebound and celebrate the July 4th with even more enthusiasm and meaning.

    Very sorry
    Hello,

    I am so very sorry for your loss. It is never easy to lose a loved one - no matter how old or how ill they may be - but hopefully there is comfort in that fact that she is not suffering. Your family will be in my prayers.

    Oh my
    yes very quickly. I'm so sorry for your loss. So glad all your family was there together on the 4th. Thank you so much for sharing this news with us.

    Earlier today I was reading Mary Oliver, a favorite poet of mine for years. Here's one:

    To live in this world
    you must be able
    to do three things:
    to love what is mortal;
    to hold it
    against your bones knowing
    your own life depends on it;
    and, when the time comes to let it go,
    to let it go.
    -Mary Oliver

    sending warmth, Leslie

    so sorry
    Wow- your post took me by surprise. I saw the title and thought "oh wonderful! She's doing better!" Then, of course, I saw the actuality of what happened. I guess she is doing better because she's in a better place- just not the way we would have hoped it would have turned out.
    That's a great attitude though, about having the family decorating the house all the more for each 4th of July in the future. What a great way to remember her!
    Bless you and your family and take care-

    glioblastoma
    You are definitely in my thoughts since my mother passed away from the same nasty disease just a few years ago. Glioblastomas are supposedly "the most deadly tumors known to man". I pray that your pain diminishes quickly but those great memories live on forever! Remember to take care of yourself.

    I'm sorry for what you and your mother had to endure with this nasty disease. As was expected, the family has turned this sad time into a glad time by celebrating Linda's amazing life.We all used to wait for her letters in the family Round Robin packet because she was able to write as funny as Erma Bombeck. I looked at her page on caringbridge.org and there are 2,251 messages for the family. That's amazing in such a short period. She reached and affected so many people over her life. Thanks for your note. It means a lot and I will share this and the others with the family.
