Gemzar and rash

My wife has taken 2 treatments of Gemzar, and has a bad rash on thighs and chest. What is the best medication to help with this rash.

She has had over 50 treatments with different chemicals, but this one has given her the most severe side affects.

    It sounds like she has an allergic reaction, or at least a rash like that is a good indication. I have been on Gemzar and know others that have been and never heard of a rash from it. When ever I have gotten a rash after a chemo the docs say allergy. The gemzar is hard on a person and really knocks you down, pray she is already doing better but I would call your oncology team.

    Bonnie is of course right, also has your wife started any new medications or changed the dose of any Rx drugs?

    I had a similar rash when I was changed to a new Synthroid with a new color and that was my problem.

    Thanks for the response. A rash is one of the listed side effects for Gemzar, so her doctor is not to concerned. She got a small rash on her thigh after the first treatment. Her doctor gave her Benadryl during the second treatment, to help with the rash. However it is a little worse after the second treatment.The main thing is what she could use to help deal with the discomfort from it. We are trying Benadryl for now. I thought if someone else had had a similar reaction to Gemzar, they may have discovered something better. Thanks all.
