Mini Meals
My mom was told by Cancer Care Alliance to make mini meals.
I don't have many ideas... I have tried to look online for some but I'm having trouble. My mom needs to eat small meals so that she gets protein and nutrients to keep her strength. She has thrown up twice today from the chemo she got yesterday.
Anybody have any ideas for small, easy meals? And could you include the ingredients also? I would be thankful!

Just make smaller portions(or freeze smaller portions of what you make) also have the protein drinks on hand for her. I could eat maybe an egg or rice in broth when I was sick from some of the chemos. Small amounts of whatever she can eat or feels like eating. I know lots of people do smoothies too. Good morning Brittany,
When you call your Mom's doctor about the diarrhea be sure to also mention the vomiting, I hope she's taking the Zofran.
When I had carbo/taxol I had to take Zofran every 5 hours, around the clock, for 3 DAYS.
Regarding mini meals, I'd think simple meals would be a good idea. Soups are excellent, you can get a huge variety of Progresso soups, or Campbell. They have protein and vegetables too.
Ensure or Instant Breakfast drinks would be a good way to get nourishment into her, apple sauce or any canned fruit would be good too.
How about frozen waffles, pancakes or french toast? I'm trying to take it into account that you need things that are quick and easy for you to prepare.

Ice Cream
The thing that surprised me about the few times of nausea I had was that I could go back to the table and continue eating. It seems the chemo nausea was different than the viral nausea we usually have. I hope your mother notes this. I used Ensure, boiled eggs, ice cream, puddings and soups. Make sure her doctor knows about the nausea because there are lots of drugs to combat nausea. Like Bonnie said, small amounts of normal food if she wants. For some reason the spicier the better for me although the literature said stay away from that, I craved it!! As I said before, everyone is different so let her try a lot of different things. Ice cream was sure soothing to me when I felt the worse....

eating when you don't feel like it
Hi Brittany, I have had extreme nausea with my current cocktail for the first week. When I start eating, soups (my favorite is tomato) go down the easiest. I can also eat scrambled eggs and toast, eat fresh tomato, cucumber and avacado sandwiches. The problem is that when you are nauseated nothing sounds good, so it is hard to know what to tell your loved one to fix. My husband knows now and when I am really sick he just makes small portions of what I usually can eat and encourages me to take a bites of everything. As the nausea begins to get better, I start to actually crave things and then it is easy..... One thing I have learned is that water tastes like grapefruit juice and although I am supposed to drink it, it tastes so awful I avoid it. But, when I put lemon into it, it tastes sweet and I can drink it. Hope you can get some ideas for mini meals that work for your mom.

I wanted to share with you a Mini Meal plan I found on-line called http://www.5minimeals.com.
They send you an email (weekly) that includes a detailed shopping list and nutritionist approved menu with easy to follow meal ideas (5 recipes per day). The meals are rich in nutrients and tasty with mostly fruits, vegi's, fish, and lean meats. It is one of the best plan I've seen on the internet.

When I was having the nausea spells especially in the morning I found nibbling on a ginger snap cookie really helped me a lot. My husband bought a jar at sams club for me. Found out later that sailers used jinger snap cookies on ships to prevent motion sickness so you might want to see if it helps her any.0
