Recovery Question

My surgery is set for Aug. 12. On Sept. 27 we leave for a cruise to Bermuda for my Son's wedding at Bermuda. While at a bridal shower yesterday they discussed renting mopeds on the island for an island tour. Some of the brides family still live in Bermuda and were going to take us to the non tourist places to see the real Bermuda. I'm curious for those that are in recovery what your thoughts are on the possibility of me be able to ride a moped around Six weeks post surgery. Do you think that is feasible? I'm sure it would cause urine leakage, would that be more harmful then beneficial?

The Dr. all ready told me I should be fine to go on the cruise but of course we didn't disucss riding mopeds around the island.

Appreciate anyones thoughts and I will be talking to the Dr. on Monday about his opinion.
Larry

That's about six weeks. A lot depends on how you heal.

In addition to the incontinence question (you may surprise yourself!), the other element that I can see will be the incisions. You didn't say whether you'll be doing open or robotic. At a guess based on my own experience, I wouldn't think riding a moped would be a problem at six weeks, though your endurance may not be up to "around the island."

    Moped riding
Hi Levino......I am nearly 6 weeks post-op. Just in the last few days the tenderness in the crotch area has dissipated. I ride a road bike and may try to do some short (5mi.) rides in the neighborhood. Much depends on the saddle comfort of the Moped. If I were you, I would try riding a bike a few days before your trip. Good luck.

    Riding
Must agree with George, now that we are 6 weeks post-op much has improved. I took my Harley out the other day, all was fine, I have less leaks while sitting, than while walking. Rode the bike for awhile with absolutely no problem. And like George, tenderness in the crotch area is gone for the most part. I am not wearing any pads during the day while at home, some small leaks but nothing I even notice. If we go out anywhere, or go for a walk, groceries etc, I will wear a pad for assurance that no leaks show thru. Good luck Larry, have fun on your cruise...

    Having the robotic surgery.
Having the robotic surgery. Bermuda is not a huge Island and would be going slow speed on the moped. Probably max 30-35mph. Also most likely freguent stops to get off to see the sights and only doing this for 1 day. Thanks all for your input and I will discuss with the Dr.

    riding update
Just tried to ride my bike...way too sensitive yet! Mind you the seat is very small...Mopeds should be a little larger...better play it by "rear"

    Hi Larry.
At my point post surgery 1 day shy of two weeks, I still have trouble sitting. I hope at your time 6 weeks you could. I would ask the doctor.
    Have fun.

    Hey that's tender!
I am 2 months post surgery. I remain tender but, slowly improving. Agree with Jim, no much leakage with sitting but, continues with standing and walking. I wear generic Depends as I believe that I am not quite ready for pads.
