Diarrhea?
She received her 3rd round of chemo (carbo platinum and taxol) yesterday at Cancer Care Alliance. She asked the nurse if diarrhea is normal from it, and the nurse said that it isn't.
HUH?!
I thought that diarrhea is normal when one has chemotheraphy.. maybe I'm wrong, maybe the nurse is wrong. Since her immune system is so depressed, it is possible that she picked up a diarrhea bug or something.. I do not know exactly.
Anyways, my mom is on Zofran.
Just wondering, IS it normal?

diarrhea
Hi Brittany, and Mom,
Diarrhea may be a side affect of the carbo/taxol, I had an episode when I was on that chemo. I called my oncologist immediately and was told to take Immodium which did stop it.
Diarrhea is nothing to fool around with, it could cause dehydration if it's not treated. Make sure she drinks lots of water.
First thing tomorrow morning, you or Mom call her doctor's office and tell them she's had diarrhea for whatever length of time it turns out to be, and have them tell her what to do, or what to take. Make sure they know that you need an answer.
I also use Zofran, it's a wonder drug and works so well. I never had any kind of side affect from it.
Brittany's Mom, you have an amazing daughter and you're so blessed. Please post to us, even if it's just to chat. We're all in the same boat and understand what you're going through.
Have a good evening.

I have sent her
Thank you!
I have sent her an email and sent this link to her. She registered, but I don't know her username.
She will likely be online in the morning/early afternoon.
I urged her to register and told her that there are many women on here that are/have gone through what she is right now. And also that by posting on here, it will help her0 -
Diarrhea
Hi Brittany and Mom,
Sorry to hear you have the diarrhea, and even though most people deal with constipation, some people end up doing the texas two-step. I would call the Doc again or see your local Dr. Immodium is probably all you need but a person gets dehydrated pretty fast and you may need some fluids too. Hope it has already stopped and you only need to enjoy the day. Let us know how you are doing. Hugs ♥ Prayers Bonnie0 -
Again
Brittany and Mom,
Again with carbo/taxol I really had no side effects except bone/muscle pain and aches. Slight nausea (had medication), no bowels problems either way.
But again lots of advice here and chemo hits us all differently because we are each uniquely made.
In His Grip,

Opposite
My bowel involvement was just to opposite. Ditto on calling the doctor. If she had a lot of antibiotics in the hospital, her good bowel bacteria may have been destroyed and she may need some probiotics to replace them. Anyway, do notify the doctor. Saundra0
