Over the counter drugs
Although I feel pretty good most of the time, by about 5-6 pm I get gas so bad that I am afraid to go out of the house. I eat carefully6 and not at lot, at that. I suspect I expected a bit too much from the surgery as I thought after taking out two tumors I wouldn't need immodium (spelling?) or Pepcid. Wrong, at least for me. Do any of you more seasoned vets of colon cancer take meds like that? Ot should I be going back to my Gastro-ent or oncologist? Sorry if this question sounds ignorant, but the whole gas pipe line in my system concerns me. As I said in one post, I could fuel the nation sometimes. Alas, my car won't run on evening explosions!
Thanx for listening.

I am
assuming that you have had resection surgery? If so, gas is natural. I can remember when I hardly ever pasted gas or had a normal bowel movement, but boy, once I had the turmor removed, chemo completed and resected, it all came to ahead.
I can't stop passing gas and regular bowel movements are more common now. My husband loves to hear me pass gas, as he states, at least we know it it working now.
Could it be the food you eat? I eat alot of fruits and veggies which causes gas along with a fiber diet, so that doesn't help either.
Dont' hesitate to speak with your doctors about this also. There is NO question too small or too stupid.0 -
Gas
It's exactly a year since finishing chemo and I still get alot of gas. It doesn't matter what I eat,it seems like everything gives me gas! Bowel movements are more normal than before but I seem to go alot more often. It just lets me know that everything is working the way it should!0 -

I am 2 months NED and I get TERRIBLE gas pains..I am doubled over sometimes until it passes..The doc says its just working itself past my resection which is thinner than the rest of my colon so thats why its painful...So I guess all in all I will deal with it cause its the lesser of all evils at this point...I take gas ex when I feel it coming on....0 -
It's normal...
Our bowels HATE to be touched!!! And a resection...it's all-out WAR!
I know it sounds trite, but it DOES get better...I am going on 5 years post-surgery, and I still get a few bouts with gas, but not very many.
I became lactose intollerant after my treatment. I got MUCH fewer episodes of gas after stopping most dairy.

This is not to just Kathi, but to all who gave me info. I feel better already (although I may not 'smell' better or be quieter!). I appreciate all of you taking the time to help quell some of my fears. Yes, I'm lactose intolerant, too. Rats! I love milk shakes and ice cream. However, a non-milk product called SILK does taste pretty good.
Again, thank you all for taking time to answer me.
Happy 4th of July!
Oh, and three cheers for KathiM for 5 years post surgery! And it is so hopeful to hear from all of you who have beaten the "monster" for long periods.
Happy Birthday, USA and hoorays for all of the great folks on the CSN.
