In the Meanwhile
I have accepted the fact that I probably won't be riding my motorcycle this riding season. I also will probably not be able to compete in the shooting league this season. Although I look forward to those activities after this is all over.
I am finding other activities to keep me busy, and as a reminder of how fortunate I am that I can do something besides wait.
I will be returning to work next Monday. I am looking forward to getting a little more structure in my day. I will probably start back half days to see how things go.
I have been spending my time planning for what's ahead to the best of my ability. I think things will be better if I can work during any further treatments.
Thanks for all the support and words of encouragement. I am already beginning to get strength and hope reading about other newbies, in-treatment and surviors. It takes a surviors attitude to get through this.
My breast surgeon has mention chemotherapy to me but I haven't actually talked with the Oncologist. I have an appointment next week with the breast surgeon for another post-op check-up and to schedule an appointment with the Oncologist. Who knows, I might be able to get away with radiation therapy (hoping).
I will have bad days and good days, and will come to this place as a reminder that I am not alone and I can do this.
Thanks,
Nellie

Good to hear from you
No, you are not alone Nellie. And you already have a wonderful attitude: your being practical and planning ahead, and you are also realistic. There will be good days and bad days. With your attitude, you will make it through all just fine.
I hope also that you can avoid chemo. I just started rads Monday. I have been especially anxious, but the incredible women here have lifted me up when I needed it. You will find the same support. Keep in touch, and let us know what your onc. tells you.0 -

Glad to hear that you are pretty up beat about all this. I too am getting on with the healing process. I get me last tube out tomorrow, YAHOOOOO!!!! Can't wait for that one. But I am also going to get a port put in as my chemo starts July 9. Hope that you will keep us updated. And again keep your chin up, we will all get through this.

Chatting is fun. I am mostly lost out there. The lingo keeps me guessing what it means.
Radiation only would be nice. I am trying to educate myself on the post-op pathology report. I find it hard to ask questions with the little information I have.
I got my appointment with the Oncologist scheduled today. I will be seeing the surgeron and the oncologist the same day.
I'm sure my new vobcabulary will grow from those visits. I was recently a member of the engineering team designing and development probes for breast biopsies. Now I am one of the patients our team work to make the experience less painful and invasive. The technical language regarding the design of instruments I speak well.
As an engineer I have always counted on data to get to a solution or resolution. I am trying to use that same rule with breast cancer. I am educating myself with the data at hand. Although it is hard not to visit the "what if" world of things.
I practicing the Mandolin today to improve the mobility of my arm. One of my birds always runs to her cage when I start to play. The other jumps in my lap and watch me strom.
There is a saying I have around that goes something like..."You don't know the worth of the anchor until you have felt the wrath of the storm". I have had some storms...some good some bad...but I have practice surving storms. The anchors are always appreciated when the storms are over.

I am going to start letting Silk my bird chat. She sits besides me an watch me type and yells evertime a message comes through. The movement on the screen seems to excite her.
Thanks for the words of encourgement. I have found this a good place to go and feel accepted. It is amazing how people become silent so soon. I think they don't know what to say and I want to say, whatever we talked about before we can talk about now. This does not make me angry or sad, I just wish they would feel comfortable enough to be themselves.

Be sure and write any questions you might have down for your surgeon and your oncologist. No matter what, be sure and ask them. And, take someone with you, 4 ears are better than 2. Good luck and keep us updated.0 -
