Anyway, I'm here for some information. I have a cluster of microcalcifications with a birads of 4. Can anyone give me any information? I'm a little leary of what I find on the internet but I'm trusting your information since you all are the ones who have experienced the same things I'm going through. Please help if possible.

It will be ok
The hardest thing in the world is the wait. I had a mamo last Sept 22 and by Sept 24 my gyno's office called and told me that the Dr. (the gyno I had been going to for 10 years) thought that I had breast cancer. I was upset, confused and downright mad. It took 2 weeks before I had my biospy.
Luckily my sister in law is a obgyn and reassured me that usually breast cancer is very slow growing and that 1 month or 3 months is not going to make a difference in your prognosis. In other words it is not a medical emergency. This also gives you time for a second opininon.
It's just the wait that kills you. Don't jump to any conclusions until you have your biopsy.

First, let me welcome you
First, let me welcome you Ellen! So, HI! And, NO, doctors don't do this
on purpose. You have to remember that there are a lot of other patients for him to respond
to. And, they cannot possibly know the turmoil that we as bc survivors go thru. Noone can
know unless they have been thru it. So, just be patient and I wish you the best of luck.
Please keep us posted Ellen!0 -

Thanks for your help...I"m trying to take a positve approach to things. I mean if there was a 10% chance of rain I'd still plan my picnic. I'd just like to know what the chances are..
and if things don't turn out like we'd like them to... well... what is my next step?0 -

do think positive. They say that is half of the battle! The questions you are asking are
best answered by your doctor. Wishing you peace of mind soon! Hugs, Jeanne0 -

Like they said, waiting is the hard part, but, you will soon be moving on with your treatment, if needed. Just talk to your doctor. Good luck!0 -
Welcome Ellen.....
Yep, you sound like me 6 weeks ago!! Best advice I can give you, try not to absorb too much info too quickly. I was killing myself with info the moment I was told they "thought" I had BC. If I hadn't, then I just caused myself alot of unneccessary anquish. However, I do have BC but found there is plenty of time to gather info as you go through the steps and much kinder to your emotional well being. I have had 7 benign biopsies (all from microcalcification findings). I did not get BC till #8 15 years later. Good luck and be sure to keep us posted. We will do our best to help you along. Pammy0 -
I had microcalcificaitions -
I had microcalcificaitions - turned out to be stage 0 DCIS. I had a lumpectomy but that didn't get it all because I had alot. Had to have a mastectomy. If the lumpectomy would have worked I would of had to have rads for 6 weeks then 5 yrs. of meds. Since it didn't, the mastectomy was it, no rads or anything. Best of luck to you. Lots of people have calcifications that are harmless. I know the waiting is horrible, I think I lost 15 pounds waiting to find out.0 -
welcome Ellen
believe me, no one will argue with you about that wait. It is the worst because your mind never stops.
sorry I cannot help with information on your situation, but I can say we are here and we will help in any way we can.
Let us know how it goes.

Thank you so much for your reply. I'm finding the board a huge help. I understand the process and that there are just certain steps and none of them can be skipped... waiting is just one of those steps. It doesn't make it easier though.

waiting
hi eph know what you mean was diagnosed w/dcis back in 3/05. thaey told me 80 % of the time not cancer come to find out microca. like mine are almost always cancer. I have learned though a lot of exp. that if you can wait for results go get them yourself. just go to where you had the biosy done and ask for your reports. I now do that for every blood test, procedure, or dr. i go to because you find stuff in these reports that drs. dnt tell you or forget to or think not important. plus its also away to keep track of when and what you had done.that said if it is cancer it wld be stage 0 most likely i had a lumpectomy while awake just lidocaine and a pain killer. very easy so dnt worry to much i know thats easier said then done. i hope they say beign!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!0 -

I guess I never felt that the wait was a bad thing. But, everything moved pretty quickly for me. I hope that you get all of your answers soon and that your treatment goes quickly for you!0 -

I also had the microcal, had a bioposy then a lumpectomy and luckily (I guess I should say)
they found 3 small cancers not associated with the calcifications, dx type 1 DCIS. So it was on to a mastectomy for me. Clean nodes and am now doing 5 years of harmonal therapy. I know the waiting is hard this was the 2nd time around for me. Hang in there.........we all hope the best for you.

Thank you for all your kind words... all of you.
Finally the day came for the biopsy. and to my surprise I don't have to wait 2 more weeks for results. I have an appointment on Thursday with my surgeon to get the results.0 -

well, that's better than two weeks. I hope your surgeon tells you that it's benign. Let us know, okay? We will all be thinking of you.
