what kind of support

after surgery what kind of bra do I wear? sports bra or good support bra? Thanks

    Peb.. I had a ductectomy six
    Peb.. I had a ductectomy six years ago.. a sports bra was what I used then and it was very helpful...this time with the lumpectomy.. I felt more comfortable without anything.. specially where they took nodes under my arm.. have several options on hand and use whatever is the MOST comfortable for you.

    I don't know what kind of surgery you had,but after I had my partial mastectomy-my surgeon told me to wear my oldest, well used bras-or nothing at all for a while!Some of us have just worn camisoles or tank tops.

    I forgot to say that I am having a lumpetomy for stage o dcis. When I had the biopsy I was sore without support and I am not large . I guess I will take both and see how things go. I am still bruised and sore from the biopsy June 18th and am having the surgery on July 1st next Wed.

    As for me, since I am not large breasted, I used a soft cotton tee shirt for weeks after surgery. I bought a size larger than I would normally wear, but not too big so it offered some support, and it was very comfortable. I got mine at JC Penney's in the ladies' lingerie department (though I think they carry something similar to it in the men's department).

    if you choose to wear a bra
    Make sure you go for the front closure. Your arm will be sore and that way it will be easier to put on.

    After mastectomy I wore a
    After mastectomy I wore a mastectomy tank top that held the drains and had removeable padding. After that I wore sports bras or nothing. I have in tissue expanders and those things are not going anywhere. Hope you are feelong well.

    Peb, I am large breasted, but, I chose to wear nothing. Some friends bought me some soft cami's to wear, but, it just felt better to wear nothing at all. I do wear my husbands soft tshirt at times.

    I had a lumpectomy, and when I awoke the surgeon had me in a compression bra, he wanted me to where it for over a month. Your surgeon will tell you what he will perfer you to where, then you will need to go from there

    I had a lumpectomy and I haven't worn a bra since the surgery. It feels good! Not sure if I will ever again!

    You may want to check with surgeon
    When I asked what type of bra I should wear home after my surgery, they told me the one I wake up in! Where I had my surgery, they put a surgical bra on you and it is yours to wear home & use. It was pretty nice too! It had the front closure, adjustable easy to use straps, and had a silky diamond pattern to it. It fit purfectly too! Don't know if they measured me or what because when I looked at the tag...it was my exact size (and they never asked me!). Well, they are "boobie" experts, huh? So I would check with them first to see if they will provide you with a surgical bra. :) Pammy

    I went to one of those
    I went to one of those "specialty" stores for women with bc and got kind of like a sports bra. Something for support felt good.

    Unfortunately, I have very sensitive skin and started reacting to it (itching and rash) shortly after going home. The plastic surgeon said I still had to wear it and told me to take antihistamines or Pepcid (which apparently has an antihistamine in it).

    I figured I was on enough drugs, thank you very much, so I toughed it out while still on my pain pills. Eventually, my skin was so bad that I went to Target and picked up several Champion sports bras (on sale!!). They were, and still are, waaaaaayyy more comfortable, but I had to have help getting them on and off for awhile since they do go over your head. (Even now if I put on that post-surgery bra, it starts driving me nuts in no time at all.)

    I am 7 weeks out of surgery, and the sports bras still feel the best. I've tried some of my old underwires, but they are very uncomfortable.

    So....there's my 2 cents worth!

    I had a lumpectomy and woke
    I had a lumpectomy and woke up with a cammy type bra that velcro's in front. I was told to wear it all the time, even to bed for no less then a month or so. I can also wear a sports bra. After I fell better and healing is done I can go back to my regular bra's.
