Rectal Cancer Reoccurance

Hi all. My fiance was dx with rectal cancer almost 5 years ago a 5cm tumor covering 75% of his rectum, he did 6 weeks of constant infusion 5fu and radiation daily, by the time he went for surgery there were no cancer cells found, he had a colostomy for 2 years then a reversal. They classified him as a stage 2 post radiation.
Recently he started losing his vision in his left eye. An eye doc could find nothing except increased pressure, sent to a neuro, who ordered an MRI of his brain. The MRI showed nothing wrong with the brain but did reveal a small lesion on his temporal bone. The MRI report reads
"Since patient has a history of colorectal cancer lesion is suspicious of metastic deposit or could be a benign tumor"
His CEA was normal actually lower then it normally is. The neuro has been very clear that the lesion and vision loss have nothing to do with each other. He also tested positive for an infection (the same one that causes cat scratch fever) and has a spinal tap set for Friday then off to infectious disease doc.
He is getting a PET scan tomorrow and while I am pretty sure it is not cancer, I am so scared. His colorectal surgeon said with a complete response to chemoradiation he had excellent long term prognosis.
Has anyone had a MRI find something that was thought to be cancer but it wasn't.
