Self-healing through TCM and Meditation?

Meditation
I guess I do believe, but probably not in the way you were hoping for. I believe that meditation, prayer, reiki, healing touch, massage, reflexology, facials, yoga, etc help to connect to a Higher Power. They also help with relaxation and a general feeling of well being which help with sleep, digestion, stress relief, and depression. Those all help your body’s abilities to fight disease and aid in the ability of your traditional treatment to work more effectively.
So yes, I use many of the above on a regular basis. I have at least one of those 'treatments' every week and would do more if I could afford it. I also walk, swim and use a hot tub daily. I volunteer. I blog. I utilize my wonderful support system. And I go to chemo, radiation, treatment seminars, and any thing else I can come up with. My biggest 'secret'? I have FUN every.single.day. I think God approves!

Kimby, I would definately say that God approves, because with everything that you have been thru he/she has made you strong to deal with all this, plus you're enjoying your life to the fullest. I congratulate you.
I also believe the way that you do, all of the above does make you more relaxed which has alot to do with your ability to heal.

TCM
MD Anderson in Houston, Texas, a highly esteemed cancer treatment and research institution, has joined with doctors and others in China and elsewhere to consider the effects of so- called traditional, or holistic Chinese methods on cancer treament.
There has certainly been some positive news, but even the Chinese doctors and researchers involved caution that any such methods should be used IN CONJUNCTION WITH accepted western practices, rather than contrary to such.
This is important to remember.
Take care, all,

I think it's possible
A positive attitude can have a positive effect just as a negative attitude can produce a negative effect. I think it could be used with dietary changes alone, or with chemo alone, or a combination of all three things. I know (of) people who did not go the traditional western approach of chemo and have cured themselves of cancer by starving it of what it needs to grow and spread. There are few studies on it because they do not have the financial backing that the pharmaceutical companies have and they certainly do NOT want anyone entering their turf with a natural remedy where the only costs are for food and a place to relax and/or meditate.
After 5 years of living with stage IV cancer and being in constant chemo for that time, I am looking into making gradual dietary changes to see if they make a difference.0 -

I'm glad I found this discussion. I believe in this with all my heart and mind. I know 3 people that have had success with this in dealing with deadly cancer. Maybe it's God's work. But the immune system is strengthened when the mind is healthy. Read the work of O. Carl Simonton - Getting Well Again is the book that inspired me. I did the exercises he recommends - to help find the issues that were disturbing my mind. If we work on these things and ACTIVELY PARTICIPATE IN OUR HEALING the immune system can be boasted and help the body heal in conjunction with western medicine.
Like others I also received regular healing touch. I now do yoga, massage at least once a week and meditation most every day. I did it 2-3 times a day during cancer treatment.
I think the key is that we need to continue to stay well to avoid recurrence.

I agree with you Daisy, thanks for your input.
I've had things take a while and it seems like the post is not being posted so I've hit Post Comment again and had the same thing happen. Hate when that happens

TCM was my main "treatment" for cure
Hi Gary,
Traditional Chinese Medicine was the treatment protocol that I opted to do when I was dx'ed with Stage III colon cancer. I decided against the prescribed adjuvant chemo and instead went for weekly "treatments" with a licensed TCM. She counseled me for at least an hour before she did the acupuncture, massage, lymphatic drainage, reflexology and aromatherapy that I had done each week. She advised me on what supplements and chinese herbs to take and on my diet (I was juicing and following a vegan macrobiotic approach). In conjunction to all this I practiced yoga and prayer/meditation. For my western diagnostics (which I religiously did every 3 months for the first year, then every 6 months, then every year and now am on an every 2 year plan), I went to the Mayo Clinic where my oncologist has been supportive if not curious. He's a believer now, I tell ya. I am 8 years cancer free having NEVER done a lick of chemo!
Cancer is a symptom of a deeper issue in spiritual, physical and emotional realms. Western medicine does not consistently address anything but fragmented physical aspects of dis-ease. What is so wonderful about TCM for me besides the holistic approach, is that it digs to the ROOT of the problem that causes the cancer in the first place. For me, my cancer was, in part, a manifestation of my deep rooted and "stuffed down" grief for the death of my sister 9 years earlier. She died of intestinal cancer after having been given the run-around of misdiagnoses by Western doctors until it was too late. She was 33 and left a 5 month old baby girl.
The large intestine is part of the lung system in TCM and the lung is the organ of grief. (think heart being the organ of love for example). So it's was no surprise that my tumor was in my sigmoid colon.
Western diagnostics and surgery was my life saver but the TCM holistic approach, in tandem with my juicing/macro diet, was my healing. I wouldn't, most likely, be alive if it were not for both modalities working in conjunction for my cure.
I believed strongly then, as I do now, that any chemo would have undermined my health beyond repair as it did for the other three members of my family who succumbed to the Western treatments for cancer. (lung, breast, intestinal)
My meditation came through my yoga practice and my active prayer life (Jesus-centered--he is the entity in which I put my faith though I hold a more inclusive perspective). Just as I cannot imagine life without one of my 5 children, I cannot imagine my cure happening without one of the elements I used. They are all so interconnected.
For whatever it's worth, that's what I can add to your search.

Hi Kimby (or anyone else with experience of doing Reiki),
Could you describe what the experience with Reiki is like- either here or on my other thread I just posted about it? Thanks, in advance!
My cancer center offers it and I'm trying to find out ahead of time what it's like, what they do, etc, also if there's any spiritual aspect to it. I think I may even be able to get it during my chemo this coming Wed if I call in ahead of time (as long as there's still a spot open). I just would like to know what to expect ahead of time.
Thanks-

I agree with Joe, meditation and other forms of healing should be used as a compliment to any treatment you're undergoing with your doctor.
With that said, I was healed through meditation. It wasn't cancer, but I can tell you that healing is definitely possible. My healing started with doctors being unable to cure me of my illness. With no hope of aid from Western medicine, I quickly turned to alternatives. I explored hypnotherapy, Reiki, Qi Gong, craniosacral therapy, acupuncture and chiropractic. I honestly can't say any one of those things by itself healed me. But what it did do was open my consciousness to a higher power and the possibility of something more.
After I met an Indian guru, I got involved in Yoga and meditation. What I experience cannot be easily explained, nor comprehended by the mind. But it was as if my meditation teacher had suddenly turned on a switch inside me, and I suddenly experience love...true love, without an external source. It was deep inside me, and it was me. I had thought that at some point, I would discover some secret that would unlock everything, some energetic technique or Qi Gong exercise. And I asked inside if this was what I was looking for, and I heard her voice inside me say, "Yes, this is everything you've been seeking." And it was just, LOVE.
The road after that experience has been long and fraught with learning. But I have not experience my illness since.
So my message to you is...

Healing
Every one of us are different and what may work for one may or may not work for the other. I believe in the power of God being able to heal but it is by faith and faith alone. God has giving doctors the wisdom and knowledge needed to help heal our bodies when we misuse and abuse them. But Medicine is not what it use to be; now days it is all about Money, they need us sick because we are a commodity like it of not.
When my cancer came back a third time 2006 and I opt for no more treatment, my doctors could not understand it. I am thankful that one doctor did understand and has supported me in doing alternative treatment. I just did my PET scan last week and 4 ½ years later it is showing no more new growth of the cancer.
For me I believe it was God who lead me to find what works for me and I continue to enjoy the live he has given everyday.0 -

I love you guys posts!! There are modalities like TCM , holistic medicine and diet that have documented benefits. Faith is indescribably powerful tool/gift. I've done the oncology method but if you read my spiritual encounter post on colon club forum also had a significant touch from God. (gulp....if I offended ANYONE in this planet, life or the next please forgive me) It's been documented for generations that healing touch, prayer can make dramatic impact. As for me i have a christian paradign but if you do not that's fine.:) We are all this together and any loving support, prayer or compassion we can provide to each other is welcome to me !!

It’s hard for me to live without having something to live for that is not better then this life here of sickness and pain.
In the end if there is no God when I die I have no worry, I have lived a good life and will go on as nothing, but if there’s a God then all the promises he has made to his children of a place where there is no sickness, no pain, no suffering will all be well worth the trials we go through here.
Like you I too respect everyone’s belief whether to believe or not it is a part of the world we live in and I too wish everyone well.0 -

There are many ways to deal with illness. Methods like TCM have been around longer than many religions have been yet they are often not noted in every single post by the people who practice it were-as the same can not be said of religion. Opps, did I offend anyone???
It is GREAT to see posts that have to do with Spirituality, Prayer, and Meditation actually in the place they should be. Miracles CAN happen it seems.0 -

I do respect your beliefs although I don't have the same ones. Some people question their existence, others do not yet they can both have a wonderful life that is very fulfilling. Let me ask you this, what if there is a God but it's not the same God you believe in. What if it's a God that does not like people to worship what they perceive as a false God? Do you think that it matters at all?
This is not why I am agnostic, it didn't come down to a decision between the "right or wrong" God for lack of a better way to put it. I think that most people who believe in a "god" believe that theirs is the true god but everyone can't be right, can they?
I think most of us agree that it's best to live and let live although organized religion hasn't always seen things that way. Hence almost every single war that man has had has been over spreading the word of God or doing God's work or saving people from...something.0
