I am only out of surgery 4 days. I am sore, but my right arm hurts a lot. Doc took 10 nodes. I was told not to use the arm. I have my follow up Tuesday. Is this pain normal? I also have some pain where the tube goes in. It's not horrible pain, but I do have to take my pain meds. Is all this normal for a lumpectomy ?

    arm pain normal
I had my lumpectomy on 29 Apr. I had arm pain for about a week, not bad just annoying if you didn't watch how you raised your arm. I still have a pulling feel when I lift my arm all the way up. Biggest thing is I still have numbness under my arm and in my armpit. I am massaging the lump under my arm and it helps.

    arm pain
Yup, I had arm pain too. Had lumpectomy and my surgeon took 15 nodes. Do whatever you
have to do to keep that arm absolutely still. I got a horrible infection that returned
when the first round of antibiotics finished. It delayed my starting chemo to over
four months. NO FOLDING LAUNDRY!! NO LOADING THE DISHWASHER!! NO
NOTHING WITH THAT ARM!! It's time to pamper yourself. Good news is that one year
later, I can hardly find the scar under my arm as it has nearly disappeared. Hang in
    there Hon.

No, not that I know of. I
No, not that I know of. I think it is just until you go back to see your surgeon. You just had surgery on it and it isn't good to move it just yet. You will have to move it when the doctor tells you to and do exercises. Otherwise, it will freeze or lock in place and you won't be able to use it. Your doctor will help you with all of this. I, actually, went to a physical therapist to help me. Probably was overkill, but, I didn't want my arm to freeze up on me. Ask your doctor Kat - when do you see him again?

I had just about exactly the same operation as you did. When I came round I had barely any control or strength in my right arm and it hurt like hell. I did the excersises with the rubber ball and after about a month I was able to use the arm and the pain was fading. Still had to be careful with certain things like reaching up or down, hoovering, being dragged round the field by the horse...etc etc.
Now, less than one year out of treatment I am working in a garden centre, loading heavy manure and soil bags into cars and using the long pole to get hanging baskets down. It seems the more I use it, the less it bothers me. But it was awful at first, i never thought I'd be as good as new again...but I am.
I wish you a fast and happy full recovery...Hey maybe we can meet up at the world arm-wrestling championships next year??

Kat, just be sure and do your exercises for that arm WHEN your surgeon or oncologist tell you to start doing them. But, you are too new out of surgery now, so, just be careful with it. I am sorry that you are having pain. I hope you feel better soon! Love, Jeanne

Hun?..... you sound a bit down. It soon goes away, picture me heaving shed loads of soil into the back of old aged pensioners cars. Life does get good again.

Like my Mum said when I started all this: You have to take 6 months out to get the next years....Take 6 Months! You will be absolutely better than new afterwards.

After surgery I felt like I would never be able to do anything physical ever again.......I am less than 10 months out of treatment now, strong as an ox (yeah and a face like one too LOL)

Just remember,I have everything a man wants.......Hairy Chest, Muscles and Tattoos!

Luv J.....Please be happy, you are past the worst now.....Huge Hugs to you!xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Maybe I am kinda down, Don't
Maybe I am kinda down, Don't really realize it. Maybe its the drugs. I feel like I must have been living in a big fricken bubble.Every day there is 1,2,3 or more new DX added to this site. I don't know where I have been. Never new that this cancer was so popular. Always feared cancer, because of my mom & Dad, but this is unreal for me. So many of us, to many of us.

    Yes
As soon as you are hit with this stuff you open your eyes and realize that it's a bloody epidemic!

The first person I told about it was the lovely Indian lady at the local petrol station, she looked at me sadly and said her sister in law went through this last year........I was in floods of tears at this point, she told me she was fine, but tired.......

I concluded that this is an epidemic.........I was just so shocked and numbed, everyone has a relative that has got/had this........My auntie Joan, 4 years ago, auntie Sylvia last year.

I drove into town today, there is a guy on Hwy #3 with 3 horses......They all had the pink bow on their backsides.........I fell about laughing........then wondered why?
    Kat.....

Please try to keep upbeat on this......You are one very special lady and you WILL get through this easily.......(Or I'll send MY MUM to sort you out!)

    It is depressing...........we are not.........

    Keep in touch.........Hugs Jxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

    Kathy, we all get down.
Kathy, we all get down. Don't beat yourself up over it. For goodness sake, you just had surgery, it will happen. Yes, there seems to be more cancer diagnosed everyday, but, I credit that to the fact that early detection and more women/men are getting tested for cancer and getting mammo's earlier, self checking more, lots of improvements. Women didn't use to even get mammo's until the age of 50. Now, we get a baseline at 30. So, we are getting checked earlier and getting diagnosed earlier. The good news is that because they find it now earlier, the treatment is better and not so radical. Try not to focus on the negative. Focus on the good, look at your wonderful family, your friends, your dog, your beautiful grandchildren! And, fight for yourself and them! You can do it Kat..you can!!
