I was just diagnosed last week with breast cancer. I am 43 years old with six children and three step children. My mother died at 39 of breast cancer. When I was first diagnosed, I did not cry like I thought I would. I just started praying and speaking healing over my body. I am thinking about this positively and have asked several people to pray for me. I have an MRI this week and will know what has to be done after that. Any advice one could give.

    welcome to this wonder site
Sorry you have been diagnosed with b/c. I was diagnosed in December and finished chemo
the middle of May. Will start rads tomorrow. So far it has been do-able, have had no problems, just take 1 day at a time and take deep breaths. This is a wonderful site for love and support from people all over and has been a blessing for me. I wish you love and prayers and keep your head up to whatever you face.

    Welcome
Sounds like you have your hands full. I too was recently diagnosed. May 20th to be exact, I'm 42. The only advise I can give you is to hang in there, take it one step at a time... sometimes it's not day to day, but rather moment by moment... at least that's the way it's been for me. Keep this board handy. You will find encouragement, strength, and hope here. The women who participate on this board are incredibly supportive.

We all walk this journey in diffent stages. Here you can find people who will laugh with you, cry with you and be there when you need.

I'm sorry to have to welcome you... but I'm glad you found this place.. a place of acceptance, of sisterhood. Feel free to ask questions... I know I do.. lot's of them...

    Hugs,

Sounds like you have your hands full with all the kids, and sorry to hear about your mom. But now, unlike even 10 years ago, the treatment and survival rates are so much better.

You found the right site to come to for support, prayers, info etc. Everyone here has been there and done that, or are in the midst as you are, so you will find a lot of people willing to share.

Unfortunately, we cannot advise on your treatment, your oncology surgeon will need to give you all of your alternatives, but let us know when he does, and we can definitely tell you what has happened with us!

    Take care and good luck

    thanks
Thank you Taleena. My diagnosis date was May 20th as well. I have faith of a mustard seed that I will be cured of this. I do not claim cancer. I claim healing. This is another phase in my Christian walk. Thanks for the words of encouragement. I am more anxious about surgery than the diagnosis.

Sorry to see that you are on
Sorry to see that you are on this site as a result of bc, but, just know that we all are here to support and to help you in anyway that we can. This is a wonderful site with so many caring, intelligent and wonderful survivors! Good luck with your MRI this week. My treatment options were told to me prior to my surgery for my lumpectomy, but, the final treatment options are given after your surgery from your pathology report. Mine was the same, so, I felt lucky about that. Your oncologist will help to guide you thru this very confusing time. And, we will hold your hand and listen to you when you want to talk, vent or just plain cry.

    Welcome, love9kids
My goodness, you have your hands full with those 9 kids. Welcome and so sorry you were diganosed. I was 34 at diagnosis and am almost finished with radiation now. You will likely go through many different emotions in the next few days. Take them as they come and treat yourself gently. This is a trying time, but you have found a supportive place here. Cat is right, treatments have come a very long way since your mom's illness. A very long way. Good luck on your MRI and please let us know how things are going.

    Welcome
This is the best place you could ever have found!

I was diagnosed 3/13 and had surgery almost 4 wks ago (dbl.mast. & reconstruction). This board has been an incredible support system.

My advice: Stay in prayer, take one moment at a time, and remember that God will never give you more than you can bear.

And: start lining up help for taking care of the house and the kids after whatever surgery you end up having!

Come back here often, for you will find more love, support, and less judgement than anyplace you've ever been (I can almost guarantee that!!).

    With love,

    Warm welcome, love9kidz!
Glad you found us, though sorry for the reason. The best and simplest advice I can share at the moment is to take just one step at a time. And try to focus only the next step, so as not to become overwhelmed by the "big picture"... And if you're confident in and comfortable with your medical care - that's half the battle, at least. We are all survivors here, and will accompany you along the way.

    With best wishes, and...

    Kind regards, Susan

    It is a journey
And anxiousness is one of the bumps in the road. I too was anxious about surgery. Being a woman of faith , I gathered around me a team of support to help me on this journey. People who would pray with and for me, and just listen when all I could do was cry. People who stayed positive and uplifting, and true. Tho cancer free, I still face issues, undergoing reconstruction-the final phase in just 3 days. Keep your eyes on the Lord, and he will be your peace in the storm. It has gotten stormy sometimes....but he has brought rainbows too!

    Let's make it a Holiday!!
Wow, I was diagnosed May 20th also!! This will be very interesting to see how we all progress along.
Welcome love9kidz...I am a Christian too and I feel the Lord guided me to this wonderful site as he is guiding the hands of all who will care for me. Part of my emotional caring (well, most of it!!) comes from here. This has become my lifeline! (And allows my husband to watch as much golf as his heart desires...Ha Ha )
You will find the most caring group of people here who are so eager to answer all your guestions and provide you with wonderful support.
Together we can do it!!! :) Pammy

    Welcome to the Family
    Hello Love9~

Sorry I am so late in posting! One of the best things you did was find your way here!

Advice I can give includes: Take someone with you to your Drs appointments! We get "cancer diagnosis deafness"; all of the words run together and we come out of the Drs office remembering NOTHNG! Take a list of questions with you! And write the answers down.

I also suggest you not "Google" BC! The Internet is full of horror stories! You will see that "the cure" is only to be found in an inaccessable place in the jungles which will cost you a million dollars and need to be administered by pygmies while you are swinging from a chandelier. Well, that may be extreme, but you get the idea! Do not cause yourself more fear than you already have!

You will see from these boards that you are now surrounded by so many who have walked the journey before you; and we indeed have found Life After Cancer! I am saddened that you lost your mother to the Beast, but that does not seal your fate.

Take it one step at a time, feel free to ask us anything, and know that you are holding hands with an incredible group of warrior-survivors, who are now your sisters and brothers.

    Hugs,
    Claudia

    LOVE
Sadly, but warmly, I welcome you to this WONDERFUL cyber place.....I guess MAY 20 seems to be a magical date of some sort.........I had my lumpectomy and sentinel node biopsy done on May 20......two weeks tomorrow.........I feel really, really good.....just armpit soreness but Advil takes care of that, now...... I'm 58, married almost 40 years, with two grown, great kids and 4 grands.....

Best advice......Continue to put your trust and faith in God and in the hands of the doctors who will be treating you........I asked God to guide the surgeon's hand........I have had so many prayers answered since my diagnosis, that it's almost scary.....At times we expect God to answer with lightening bolts, but most of the time God answers in a whisper.......just be open to listening for that soft reply....

I have yet to cry, also.....my mental health after the diagnosis wouldn't allow it for some reason.....I found that just getting one foot in front of the other on some days was all I could manage......and other days, I was okay.....I kept incredibily busy so that at night I was exhausted and would fall asleep easily....WIth 9 kids, I don't have to tell you to keep busy! Finally, though, one week before my surgery I called the surgeon's office and asked for "something"..they called in the lowest dose possible of Valium.....I had never taken anything like that before, but I took one as soon as I got home with it........It really helped "take the edge off" and for that final week, I was a lot better........your mental health is so important......I had lost 19 pounds, didn't need to lose even one, but it was the stress.......and last, DON"T BE AFRAID TO ASK FOR HELP AND ACCEPT HELP WHEN OFFERED from your loved ones and friends....as women that is so hard to do......I had to let go and accept the help, no matter how small......Our loved ones and friends feel so helpless, that the least little thing they can do for us, means a lot to them.......

I wish you the best and you have my PRAYERS............God Speed and Peace be with you.
If I can help in any other way, don't hesitate to ASK!
