I had the wire localization also. On both breasts. Also the radioactive stuff and the dye for the nodes. They didn't numb me for the nodes stuff. Had several pricks with a needle to deliver it. It hurt but only for a moment. Then I was to have one Ultrasound guided wire and one mammo guided. Went for the ultrasound first and because the tumor was small they decided to do them both with the mammo. Sat in the queen chair with pillows. They number each breast and all I felt was pressure. They took several pictures to make sure they were positioned correctly. Because my surgeon prefers that the needle is also left in place, they put a cap on each one (sticks out about an inch and a half) and they don't want them bumped while awaiting the lumpectomy, they wrapped them with sterile guaze and put styrofoam cups over them and taped them down. My wires were just above the nipples and these cups looked so funny that I was laughing when they wheeled me out. My husband took one look and starting cracking up. I looked like I had had very bad implants done or a Madonna musical. I had always wanted to increase my cup size but that wasn't what I had in mind. It's really not that bad, it justs sound so bizarre when you discribe it. I fretted and worried about it and that was a waste of worry. I should have paid better attention to my own motto. Don't Borrow trouble!! It was no more uncomfortable than my ultrasound biopsy or the stereotactic one. And they were not bad at all.
Best of luck with all of this. You will get through it and we are here for you every step of the way. I think that between all of us, someone has broken ground on anything that might come up. And if someone adds to the mix so much the better. We all advance with each other's knowledge.

I'm back.........had my surgery, lumpectomy 8 days ago and 3 sentinel nodes removed.....I wasted my time and my sanity on worrying about that stupid wire needle localization.......they numbed the boob and then all I felt was pressure....then they did the mammo to make sure it was in place.....no pain there either.......onto the surgical center......had the good "stuff" put into my IV before the dye injections......they burned for about 10 seconds, very tolerable........onto surgery at 1:00 PM......awake and alert at 2:30 PM in recovery....very little pain, more discomfort than pain.....had pain meds, ate crackers, drank coke........onto step down recovery for about 40 more minutes....was home by 4:15!!!!!!!!!!! But before I left, I asked if I could have another one of those $400.00 little cans of coke, for the road!!! Bet that's what they cost there! haha
I am feeling fine and actually felt really good the day after, too!
Got my final pathology report two days ago........tumor removed with good clean and free margins...........and the lymph nodes are CLEAN!!!!!!!!!!!! THANK YOU GOD! Onto the surgeon and radiology oncologist next Wednesday.......Feeling confident that only radiation will be needed......but we shall see........Thank all of you who took your time to answer some of my previous questions and concerns.....IF I CAN HELP ANYONE, I would be glad to ease some of their fears about upcoming lumpectomy, etc. God Bless you all0 -

I'm facing needle localization and more on 6/1
I'm scheduled for a partial mastectomy with preceeding needle localization and sentinel node something or other. Have had the stereotactic biopsy. Went through that OK with the help of some hypnotherapy. You think it's no worse than that? There seems to be so many different reactions to these procedures that it's got me a bit shaken. Numb or no numb, that is the question.0 -

Your celebration is shared by more than you know! As a newbie I just began reading your posts and I would like to hear from you if you have the time. My procedures are coming up on Monday. In addition to the partial, I'm slated for a complete hysterectomy for endometrial hyperplasia which will be performed simultaneously by 2 doctors and when they're finished, a urologist/ pelvic floor specialist will do her repair. Saves time under anesthesia which is a good thing, but I'm anxious about the recovery period.
You mentioned having the good "stuff" put in prior to the dye injections...what exactly burned? The good stuff or the dye?0 -
