Your Treatment Schedule

I'm just curious as to what other's treatment schedule is. I know when I started mine last week, the receptionist said that my schedule is not very common for the type of cancer I have/had.

I have on day 1
Zofran 32mg (for nausea) run time = ½ hour
Decadron 20 mg (steroid for nausea/prevent allergic reaction) run time = ½ hour
Oxaliplatin 85mg/m² run time = 2 ½ hours
Levo - Leucovorin 100mg/m² run time = 2 ½ hours
5FU 400 mg/m² run time = 20 hrs (pump put on for take home until day 2)

I have on day 2 the same but not oxaliplatin and pump is on for 22 hours.

On day 3 I get disconnected from pump.

Then I get 11 days off and start over.

4 months or 8 treatments.

The receptionist said most people get this all in one day and then go home with a pump for two days. I know there are other treatments for the type of cancer that is being treated, I just didn't know if this is what the schedule is usually like.

    I'm getting all of the same drugs plus Avastin all in one morning. 46 hours on the pump and back in for pump off.

    I go in 5 days in a row getting Decadron and Aloxi by drip, another short drip (chemo brain can't remember!) then a bolus of 5FU. I then have three weeks off, then do it again. I have completed 3 of 4 rounds and my last one starts June 12....I take Emend the 1st three days, and Lorazapam orally for additional nausea support, plus Lomotil, etc as needed. Oh, and i usuaully need hydration for 2 1/2 hours by day 3 or 4.

    I got the Levo, 5FU and Oxy, intraveneously for 3 hours. I can't remember if I also got the Decadron through an IV or if that was a pill I took half an hour before the chemo. Then the pump was put on for 46 hours. I did this every two weeks for 8 months... with a break in there for 6 weeks while I was on radiation. During that 6 weeks I didn't get the above chemo, I got the oral Xeleda pill twice/day for about 8 weeks.

    That is the exact scheule I was on when I was getting Folfox except I was scheduled for 12 cycles. (6 months) It is pretty standard around here.

    I have....
    ... every other Wednesday I get Folfiri with Avastin, then hooked to the pump for 46 hours before I leave the infusion center. Then the home health nurse unhooks me on a Friday. I take Emend, 3 dexamethosones, 2 Zofrans on day 1, then may come home to more Zofran and compazine.

    Day 2: Emend and Dexamethasone Breakfast) I will still take the zofran and compazine in the middle of the day there, then at dinner, Dexamethasone.

    Day 3: Same as Day 2

    Day 4: Dexamethason, Zofran and compazine throughout the day

    (also a natural "herb" supply in between, if you know what I mean, which works real quick)

    I have 7 more treatments to go~

    Annabelle......Sorry about the hijack but Donnas answer got me laughin a bit....
    Mine was nausea meds/oxi/leu/ 4 hours first day 3 hours 2nd day and 5fu pump out the 3rd day...I wore the fanny pack 46 hours.....did this 12 treatments (6 months).(FOLFOX)

    Day 1 (Wednesday):
    Infusion
    Day 1 (Wednesday):
    Infusion unit - 2 anti-nausea meds (30 min drip)
    Infusion unit - Avastin (30 min drip)
    Infusion unit - Oxiliplatin + Leucavorin (2 hour drip)
    Take home pump - 5FU (46 hour drip)

    Day 3 (Friday) - pump disconnected

    Then I had an allergic reaction to the Oxiliplatin and too much nausea with the IV 5FU so my current schedule is

    Day 1 (Wednesday):
    Infusion unit - 2 anti-nausea meds (30 min drip)
    Infusion unit - Avastin (30 min drip)
    At home Xeloda 4 pills in the am, 4 pills in the pm for 7 days straight, then 7 days off

    Start all over again!

    Sounds like most of you have the same schedule, except Vicki (oh you poor girl going that many days in a row but you get three weeks off).

    I did ask my oncologist today about my two days vs. the one day with everything and then going home with the pump for 48 hours and she said something about clinical trial and this is something that they used to do instead of doing it all in one day. She said that this has been proven very well in complete treatment but so has the other one. But I'm so confused by what she said if they both work who cares. She said she would change it to one day infusion if I wanted. I said "no", if this is what she thinks best, than so be it.

    I know our main goal is getting NED or NEAD so whatever it takes, I know all of us will be doing what it takes.

    Hi Kim,
    That sounds similar to what **** gets. However, he also gets calcium and magnesium throught the IV before and after treatment on the first day. It is supposed to help with neuropathy. If you want more info, see Dr. Lenz's blog at c3. Just google Dr. Lenz c3. We took the report Dr. Lenz wrote up for **** and brought it to our doc in Hawaii and said that was the cocktail we wanted **** to have. Hope the info helps.

    Yes, 5 days seems long, but the whole thing only takes about an hour per day, except on hydration days. My doc thinks the bolus plan works best for me...it's not for everyone and it really kicks my butt, but I only have 4 rounds this way instead of 8. And no pump! I hated the pump before. They did reduce my dose this month (because in April it just about did me in) and I had an easier time. Onward to #4 and NED!!!!
