I am in my first week of treatment for stage II nasopharynx cancer. The treatment, I believe, is standard (Cisplatin on days 1, 23 and 44) and IMRT radiation 5x week. I was told that it's hard to eat during treatment for various reasons. However, I was not given a peg tube. Although I experienced a lot of nausea in the first 2-3 days after receiving my first chemo due to which I couldn't eat much at all, the current situation is that I have to eat every 3 hrs or so. I get a sudden cramp (throw up / burp) feeling in my stomach which quickly goes away as soon as I eat something. The feeling is quite intense. Drinking water alone does not make it disappear. I wake up at night every 3 hrs, eat a few (sour) grapes and try to get back to sleep. I was wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience.

Wow, that hungry feeling is strange. How can you eat sour grapes? I'm five years since treatment, and I have only recently (last year or so) experience nausea when I go without food for about five to six hours. It does not happen at night, but only during the day time when I'm late at getting dinner or I forget to eat lunch.

I did not have a peg tube during treatment and ended up losing lots of weight.

Where are you in your treatment?

    I wish you the best!

    acid reflux
It turns out it was a bad case of acid reflux. The doc told me the chemo may have irritated my stomach lining. She gave me nexium to take in the morning. The drug helped quite a bit. I no longer had a spasmatic reaction to being hungry. I didn't need nexium after a few days and am feeling fine now. The hungry feeling may also in part be because I didn't eat much in the first three days of my first chemo session and lost 8 lbs in the first week. The next week I ate like a horse and gained back the lost lbs.
