When Moopy decided on Thursday that we needed a new refrigerator, I got right on it. When I first moved to Springfield, MO in 1987, I rented from a couple who owned a mom and pop appliance store. When the Moop and I got married in 1992, we bought all of our appliances and even our first bedroom set from Foster's Appliance. So I knew where to go. We were in Foster's front door at 12:30 pm, and out at 1:05. The delivery guy showed up at 2:15, and our new fridge was up and running by 3:00.

Here is the GE 21 cu. ft. Frost-Free Top-Mount(GTS21KBXWW) in all its glory:

Had we bought it at Best Buy, it would have cost $750 plus another $70 for delivery. We got it from Foster's for $660, delivered. It pays to do business with mom and pop stores... and who says that men can't shop?

The gentleman who sold us the refrigerator mentioned that his Mom, Conna (sp?) had just been diagnosed with breast cancer. She is just past the biopsy stage and is awaiting the word from her surgeon and oncologist. Lisa passed along her phone number and the directions to this board - so, hopefully, Conna will be able to benefit from the strength and the solidarity of the Pink Sisterhood!

    ? men shop
It depends on which men can shop. You of course know how to shop it is the other men that don't look or know where to find a deal. Can you find me one of those men? I need a fridge also. When I was married I was the one who did all the buying--well maybe I don't need a man to find a deal--I can do it myself.

I am glad that Moopy has a wonderful man like you.

Great job, Joe! An excellent example of RETAIL THERAPY TUTORIAL #1 - DISCOUNTS & COUPONS = SAVINGS!

By my feeble math, and with the help of a trusted calculator - you did NOT SPEND $660, you SAVED a whopping $160! (Best Buy: &750 + $70 = $820. Foster's: $660. Therefore, +$160.) Well done!

To expand further on the concept of Tutorial #1 - you can now put that SAVED $160 towards the NEW SOFA, thereby reducing its cost, for example. Or, the $160 pays for the two pairs of shoes already purchased by Moopy AND the additional pairs she'll buy soon... You get the idea, I'm sure - because you've certainly proven yourself a quick student of Retail Therapy!

Happy for BOTH of you, including Moopy, of course! Congrats! for the new fridge!

Also, sincere kudos for supporting your local "mom & pop" retailer - especially in our current economy.

As you well know, Conna will be welcomed with open arms - should she choose to join the group. Thanks - to you, and Moopy - for passing along the good words to her.

    Kind regards, Susan
