I had my first PET done yesterday. I prayed and cried thru the whole thing. I am so scared something MORE is going to show up than what I even started with. I have an appointment with radiologists for Friday. Does he give me the results of this? I won't be seeing my surgeon before then. I won't see my onc. till 6/4/09. Can I call my surgeon like wednesday to get these results or is this something they don't talk about on the phone. I watched the Farrah story too..... I cried when she seen her PET results.... scared the crap out of me too.

    Take it easy
    Jennie,
Take a couple of deep breaths and calm down.....I don't know about a PET scan cause my onc just gave me a CEA test instead..So I don't know but what I do know is freaking out is not going to help you at all..You will wind up with a headache and sick over it...That is not worth it.....Do yourself a favor and keep yourself busy...Read, knit,do a puzzel whatever it takes to get your mind off of it....Trust me it does help......I did not watch the Farrah show cause I didn't want to cry and get all upset..That is her results and her life not yours so don't take it personally.....Stay calm and good luck keep us posted and let us know the results... Call your doctor
They will tell you what to expect and who will go over the results with you. My doctor actually calls me after scans...the same day. Everyone is different. Don't worry yourself sick. Just talk to them and they will direct you.

And BREATHE. We will be hanging onto the rope and thinking good thoughts for you.

    scan results
    Hi Jennie,

I know the feeling well of waiting for scan results- I've lost track of how many CT and PET scans I've now had done over the last almost two years. I don't know about your hosptial, but at mine, the radiologist's report/scan results are in the radiology film library by later the same day, or by the next day at the very least (even though they always tell me "this will take a few days to get to your doctor"- they get the results faxed later the same day or by the next day- it's just the doctor who takes forever sometimes to read the report and relay the results to the patient). I now know that it is my right as a patient to get the results myself, if I want to. If you go there and ask, I don't believe they're allowed to refuse you- I've never had a problem. I just called the radiology dept. a couple of hours ahead of the time I wanted to go in to pick it up & then it was ready waiting for me. I actually got my results of my PET last time before my doctor knew the results. I got them and then as I was driving out of the hospital parking lot, I saw my oncologist walking up. I rolled down the window, said hello, and when he asked me what brought me here, I sheepishly told him I just got my PET scan results. He seemed surprised and then I just joked how "you know I can't stand waiting!" So, I proceeded to tell HIM my results- lol!

I know it may be kind of different getting the results of a PET scan for the first time- so you may or may not want to take that kind of approach. Best wishes on your results!!

    Lisa is right
You can ask for your records anytime. They always give me a CD of the scans, without my having to ask. I take it home and look at it. It's amazing to see, but I can't read it! LOL! My son-in-law is a doctor, and he looks at it, but he NEVER overrides my oncologist by telling me anything. They work hand-in-hand and my onc shares everything with Scott, even though Scott is not a cancer doctor. After I get the 'official' results, then he talks to me about it.

    Remember... keep breathing! Vicki
