I finished my radiation treatments on Wednesday!!!! Happy feet dance since then, with lots of breaks 'cause I'm still tired and sore and nauseous! My skin should feel better by Sunday (according to the nurse). I did well until the last 2 boosters. Lots of water and I took a cod liver oil supplement - it's good for the skin. Now I'm borrowing some aloe leaves from a friend's plant. I get 2 weeks off then I start AI treatment. Also calcium - due to the brittle bones side effect. I got my Lionheart Certificate - it really seems like I just started the treatments. So far so good. When will I feel like a survivor instead of just surviving? It's a long road but I'm moving on down it. Hugs and good luck to all.

    Heartfelt congratulations, chili!
Hooray for you! Finishing rads = HUGE accomplishment! I'm sending you a cyber pat on the back! Please give yourself one, too! I hope you savor the moment, despite the fatigue, etc. ... Now that this treatment has ended, your body has the opportunity to heal in earnest. Which is very hard work for the body. It does take time; so, I send you best wishes for patience with yourself. Continue to take good care.

Most would say you most certainly already ARE a survivor. Because most begin to count their survivorship from the moment of diagnosis forward. However, I do understand your question about this. Treatment sometimes makes us feel as if we are suspended in time. It certainly did for me. Personally, for this very reason, I count my own survivorship from the day I completed my own "invasive" treatment - which was for me, like for you, rads.

We travel the journey on a very long road. There are no u-turns permitted. The only way to go is forward! You have already made great progress!

    Kind regards, Susan

    Chili,
Do your happy dance sitting on a couch, won't tire you out as much. Great milestone, all uphill from now on. You do continue cooking for a couple more days, then you can concentrate all on healing! Take Care

    Chili,

    Chili,
Congratulations on completion of rads....what a load lifted when that last day is over. You ahve made it through the treatment, and now is time to get on the road to feeling better. Lots of people have posted that they feel like they need to get up and go as soon as rads are over, but please know that it will take some time to let your body heal. Just do what you can, enjoy whatever you like, and look forward to much better days. My oncologist told us that it would take as much as one year following chemo/radiation treatment before I would really feel well. Be patient, and know that we are all here pulling for you. Hugs.

    Another tip...
Just in the spirit of sharing, not comparison...

My rad onc instructed me to start taking Vitamin E oil supplements at the very beginning & all the way through radiation treatment. For same reason = good for the skin; but, from the inside out.

    Kind regards, Susan

    Dear Chili
Hi Chili, my name is Tami. I come here daily, reading what these brave women have to share. That includes you too. I can honestly say from personal experience that the wounds will heal. The scars will fade. Life will get better. You already are a survivor. Congratulations on completing the rads. God Bless you and you whole family too.
Stay strong and keep those happy feet dancing down that road. Do you see the light now?
