Hi, Kit!
Nice to meet you, though sorry for the reason! I joined the group about a month ago, and am a 5 year survivor. Was also 45 (nowhere near menopause) when diagnosed. My journey = lumpectomy/chemotherapy/radiation. My chemo included "chemically induced" menopause. After radiation completion, 2 years of Tamoxifen. Then, switched to Arimidex - 3+ years now, and still counting.
First - please, try not to worry. I know, I know - easier said than done.
After not having a period for a couple of years, and while still taking the Tamoxifen - it happened. As I had been continually instructed to do, immediately contacted my onc - who told me to see my ob/gyne ASAP. She scraped out a uterine lining sample to send for pathology testing. Also sent me for a pelvic ultrasound. Explained that I might also need a D&C (in the end, didn't). Both the pathology & ultrasound results were "nothing" - doctor explained it all as "shedding cobwebs"... I haven't had a similar problem since.
I understand it's certainly scary because there is a risk for uterine cancer from Tamoxifen; but, please try to remind yourself that this risk is very slight. In the meantime, I'll be sincerely hoping that your results mimic mine. That after your upcoming D&C - you'll hear the beautiful word "nothing"... Please keep us posted, Kit.
Good luck, while wishing for the best possible outcome for you.
Kind regards, Susan0 -

Hi Kit
I wish you the best of luck! I have not experienced what you have and I am sorry that you have to go thru it. Your story is another reason that I do NOT want to go on Tamoxifen. It seems to cause so many problems, and, for a 6% more chance of no recurrence or survival rate..it isn't worth it. Take care Kit!0 -
Hi Kit,
I'm new here also.
Hi Kit,
I'm new here also. I have been taking tamoxifen since Jan. and have not had that problem. It's probably because I started menopause at age 47 and wasn't diagnosed with b/c until age 48. This was back in 2005. I don't know if that makes a difference or not. I'm sorry I can't be of more help. Others here will know more about this than I do. I just wanted to say hi and introduce myself. You will be in my thoughts and prayers.
Love and Gentle Hugs,

I had a problem
I was chemo induced menopause. When I started to spot the oncologist ran a blood test to see if I was in menopause. I was. So he sent me to a GYN and she ran all the tests. Pap, biopsy, uterine ultrasound and could find nothing. She said biopsies were hit or miss and didn't trust it so I went in for a hysteroscopy (this is when they put a camera up to get a better look.) and a D&C. It turned out I had uterine polyps. My oncologist didn't know if the Tamoxifen contributed to the problem so switched me to Aromasin just in case. This isn't exactly like your case. My radiation treatment ended July 2004, started Tamoxifen July 2004, started having spotting Oct./Nov. 2004, D&C in May 2005.0 -

Thanks Marcia,Donna,Susan,Kristin and Claudia. I am hoping and praying for the best and negative outcome from the D&C. I am remaining diligent to fight fight and do whatever they tell me to do. I definitely will keep everyone posted when I find out my results.
