    Welcome
Hi Kathryn and welcome. I was on tamoxifen for about 2 yrs and then switched to aromasin. I have had no side effects from either. Some on the board have had bone pain and other side effects. I am sure that they will chime in and help you. Low vitamin D levels can also cause joint and bone pain. You might want to have that checked.

    Tamoxifen side effects...
Hello, Kathryn - and warm welcome! to you, since this is the first of your posts that I've come across. If, indeed, you are brand new to the group - I encourage you to start a new "topic of discussion" and introduce yourself. I can assure you that by doing so, you'll be welcomed by many.

I took Tamoxifen for 2 years with absolutely NO side effects whatsoever. NONE. After that, I was switched to Arimidex - now 3+ years and still counting. (The Arimidex is an entirely different story for me.) As soon as my onc prescribed the Tamoxifen - he also strongly suggested I add calcium + D supplements. Now, along with the Arimidex - I continue to take the calcium + D, and extra (separate) Vitamin D supplements. Also per my onc, I go for annual bone density scans. I strongly suggest you bring your issues with bone/joint pain to your doctor's attention.

Honestly, the Tamoxifen was so long ago for me - I don't remember if what you're currently experiencing is one of the common side effects.

    Best wishes to you.

    Kind regards, Susan

    Tamoxifen
Hi Kathryn, I have been on Tamoxifen since last August. The main problem I have with this drug is remembering to take it every day. The odd night sweat, but that is getting less and less. No problem!!!!

    Welcome Kathryn to the club
Welcome Kathryn to the club no one wants to join but yet here we are. I was on tamoxifen for 15 months and they had to stop it. I developed muscle cramps in my legs within 4 months of starting it and then my joints started to hurt and to swell to the point where I couldn't make a fist in both hands. I also gained a lot of weight both with the chemo and then the tamoxifen. The oncologist had me stop it for 2 weeks and I'm now on Arimidex. I'm hoping that I don't develop side effects as bad with this medicine. I do have to say that those 2 weeks that I stopped taking the tamoxifen, my joint pain went away and I lost 4 lbs. Not everyone develops symptoms and everyone reacts differently to medications so if you are on the tamoxifen and are having these symptoms, please discuss this with your oncologist. Hugs, Lili

Just want to say that I hope
Just want to say that I hope you feel better Kathryn. Have you had other side effects from Tamoxifen too? Like bleeding or anything? Take care!
