Hi, I was hoping that RSS feed would help me follow strands. But I don't understand how it works. Help. Thanks. Lynn

E-Mail CSN...'contact CSN' or 'CSN Help'
I've never heard of this, but if it's to do with CSN, that's your best bet...

You must have ESP. I was
You must have ESP. I was just looking at that this morning.

I read about it and it looks like you subscribe to a reader (google or aol, etc) and put the URL address of news or blogs that you like and it posts new content to your reader so you don't have to figure out what's new at these sites.

    Good call, Marcia!
If you are a Firefox user, all you need do is download this thingy called "Brief," which you can find at this link.

Download and install "Brief," and you should have a new orange button right about under the Bookmarks or Tools menu. That means "Brief" is ready to go. Navigate to the BC forum page and clink the funky little RSS icon, and you should be in business.

My motive was to be able to follow the strands that I was posting to. Is there a way to limit the subscription to those strands only, O Aortus, the great wizard? Lynn

    putting on my swami hat
I think each individual thread has its own orange RSS button in the upper left hand corner - if you click it, you can subscribe to that thread whether you have posted to it or not.

    This should do it
Go over to the "Brief" window on the left hand of the screen. Right-click on any feed you want to delete, and a menu should appear. "Delete Feed" should be one of your options.

Notice that I'm saying "should" a lot? I'm going to go check it now. In the meantime, I should (gah, there it is again) point out that you have to be logged in to the CSN site to subscribe to individual threads.

    Good luck!

Arghh! and it's not even Pirate's Day
I do use Firefox and found that if I simply bookmarked this strand, I can access it directly through bookmark. However, when I try this new-fangled RSS feed thing, (I went to Brief) it is always EMPTY. What am I doing wrong? Lynn

    Rrrrrrrrrright back atcha
As best I can tell, Lynn (I'm still confused too), the orange RSS button which appears on every thread gives you an option of where you want to save the link. Apparently Firefox has a standalone way of following threads up in your Bookmarks bar on the top of the browser. To read the thread in Brief, I think the feed has to be saved specifically to Brief.

But if you're satisfied with how the standalone way works - hey! It's all good. I want to thank you, btw, for getting me interested in RSS feeds. I always wanted to know about how they worked but never felt motivated until you got me off of my lazy gluteus maximus.

Unfortunately I tend to stay on my lazy gluteus maximus when
I'm staring at the monitor. You must have an interesting way of communicating with your computer. I tried Brief first. But I never could find a strand to come up with Brief. That's how I ended up with Bookmarks. I miss the good old days when CSN just notified us when a new message had been added to a strand. Thanks for your help. You may sit down now. Lynn

    Dunce cap for me...
I've been avoiding this thread (reading, not posting) because I don't think I wanna bother with RSS. I'm pretty new here, and just beginning to feel at least somewhat confident about working my way around the site.

But, Lynn, you've just blown my mind. Under the "Replies" column, I do see "3 new" - for example. Don't you?

OK, I'm putting the dunce cap on & will go sit in the corner, again.

    Kind regards, Susan

    About New
Thanks, Susan. I do know about New. In fact I "knew" about "new." It's just there are some strands I like to keep a closer eye on; it is those I want RSS for as a tracking device. Lynn

this is what i see when I click on Brief
I get the Brief-Mozilla Firefox page. Under all the tool bars, in the main window, on the left I get a narrow column with three rows, "Unread: with a folder emblazoned with a little sun to its left; beneath that a star and the word "Bookmarks;" and finally, beneath that a trash can and the word "Trash." Above this column there is a little box that says "Search all feeds." It is sort of gray. To the right of this narrow column there is a big box with the heading, "Unread." It is always empty. I wonder if the problem has to do with the "Search all feeds" appearing not to be activated. And how would I activate it?
