Since I've been instructed that I am not to share my faith, Bible verses etc., on this site except by pm 'if you connect with someone on the board that shares your beliefs', I am requesting my membership be removed.

This stuff is making me very sad....
I was hoping we were past all this. This is really getting silly because I feel that we all help each other so much, but if it is coming to this I may have to find a different support group also.

    Intolerance
Diane, you know you can remove from this site without making an
annoucement about it. I said nothing during the last round of
this but now I protest any attempt to get it going again.
I respect your right to post Bible verses or speak about Jesus
and God although my thoughts in that area are more on the line
of Cheryl's. If the person who came on this site for help
found your Bible verses helpful then that is the way it should
be.....whatever support a person needs then we need to give it.
I am totally amazed at how much intolerance there is in our
society that has crept into this site. To continue on this
site with this stuff is running new people away and also
the ones who have been on here a long time. Maybe it is time
for the ACS to step in and establish the rules here. And I
have now said all I am going to about this subject and am
    moving on to other things.

    Who
Who int he heck instructed you to do this? WHo has the right to do that? I always say I am praying for someone or God Bless you and its never been a problem, why is this even an issue? I think we all have more important things to worry about dont we? Something or someone, however you choose to believe brought us to this board for a reason, I say we are adults, lets work it out and go on, because I know I need all of you here!

    Beliefs
I am a Christian and have a very strong faith. I also think it is wonderful to not agree with me. I respect other religions and those without faith in a higher being. I love having debates about those belief systems because it makes me think and grow. It reminds me of what the word "faith" really means. This is NOT the place for that. That is not to say you can't say "God Bless You" or "I'm praying for you", but this is not a religious forum. I frequent one forum where they consistantly say they will 'swing chickens' for you instead of prayers. As a Christian, that is offensive to me but the PERSON is NOT! I have NEVER mentioned that I'm offended, it has never kept me from participating there or helping and befriending people there. Because I am a Christian. That is what I was taught to do. It is what MY Lord teaches.

I did not comment when this all started. All those many threads and I remained silent. (Shocking, but true...LOL) To start this again is foolish. No one has been attacked and this "goodbye cruel forum" stuff is juvenile. Anyone that doesn't want to be here for any reason doesn't have to be and they don't have to start a new, inflammatory thread to do that. We don't need more rules and to be monitored like children unless we continue to behave like children.

Not being a Christian doesn't mean seeing a bible verse should elicit rude (or any) comments and being a Christian doesn't mean you get special privlidges. Are we all really that thin skinned? I'm much more offended by canzer. Can't we get angry at that instead?

Treat each other with respect even if we disagree? Sigh....

I too was hoping that this
I too was hoping that this was over with, but unfortunately has gotten even more absurd. No one instructed you to not to share your beliefs, and as I understand the meaning of Christianity your behavior is far from being Christian. And Nana B no one ever told you not to share your feelings about leading a healthy lifestyle. I think you'd have to admit that there are times when a person in their zeal to share a belief may step over the line and begin to preach. I think preaching is the issue here and not anyone's personal belief. Whatever gets you through the night, as far as I'm concerned. If you people have to throw a hissy fit and grandstand about your leaving the group then it's your loss of a loving, caring group of people. I've been on this discussion board for 5 years, and never before has this happened. So perhaps you should consider that it's you and not this group. Please, please, please let's end this once and for all and stop distracting from the group and bringing attention to yourself.

There is no place on the forum for...
I was a little confused and concerned to see the thread about been offended by the religious tone of some of the posts. You see, for me, God plays the biggest part in everything that we do and are. I am totally new to this so I am sorry if I offended anyone or started problems, that of course was never my intention. I had been reading these posts for almost a month, and it so encouraged me that I felt compelled to write and let you know what was going on. Even before I started posting I had read faith overtones within the posts and that made me feel even better, although I still would have written even if I hadn't seen them.

Having said that, I hope none of you decide to leave here. I believe we all bring special gifts to each other, and we probably don't even realize it. When I first started reading your responses to me, each of you in different ways uplifted and encourgaged me. I hope I can one day do the same for you. I don't believe that this forum has to be or be without religion or faith. I believe that at different times in our experiences we will all need different perpectives to get us through this terrible thing we are all reluctant participants in.

I hope that we can get pass this and move forward. We all have so many other "fish to fry" that I don't believe that any of us have time to worry about this. (Yes, I am a southerner).

    Have a wonderful even.

    Faith in God gives hope
Yes, hope for a new tomorrow whether it's here on earth or up in Heaven. ACS is all about hope so I'm surprised they would object to people sharing their hope. I thrive in knowing that there is more to life than just being here one minute and gone another. What would be the point if that is all there is???

Diane, I care for both you and for some of the people who may be offended by religious remarks. I hope we all can just be supportive of each other and not accusatory. I would love to know how you're doing, so I hope you will reconsider.

    Ignore them
You guys give up too easy. Don't let the naysayers win by your leaving. You're playing right into their strategy. You have so much good to do here. Why would you cheat the rest of us from your wisdom and care becaue one or more person got in a tizzy, regardless of the subject. I referenced a Verse that was Isiah 40:31. It has to do with eagles mountin gup their wings to ride out a storm. Seems to me that this is one of those situations. BTW, no one ever jumped on me about referencing that verse. Are your belief systems so fragile that you fold your tent at the first sign of someone not liking what you wrote.

    We all need this site.

I'm a Christian, and I feel sad, because I think it sort of gives Christians a bad name when some of us get so bent out of shape. Let's support each other in this cancer journey and stop getting offended so quickly and so often. That said, I hope everyone will remain on the board. I miss those who have already left.

    Whatever gets you through it
I agree Ron... whatever gets you through it is a good thing. There is absolutely nothing wrong with having one's beliefs... we all have them.

But in case I'm reading this wrong, at the top of my screen there is the logo of the American Cancer Society. To the right of that, on every screen in a shade of green is the title -- Cancer Survivors Network. I have looked high and low and no where have I found anything to indicate Christian Cancer Survivors Network, or Muslim Cancer Survivors Network or Protestant Cancer Survivors Network or even Jewish Orthodox Cancer Survivors Network I've even searched the Help screens in case it's a hidden message. But all I can come up with is that this is a CANCER SURVIVORS NETWORK. Period. Just as I couldn't find that it is only for one belief, I didn't see anywhere that this board is only for Americans who have cancer... it is a public board for everyone.

Now, if someone could point me out to where I am wrong and that only those who insist on making others read their beliefs ... and that the American Cancer Society fully endorses this, then I will be the first to admit I've been wrong and will give, in writing, my apology for having joined a Christian-only cult board. It was my understanding that it is a board open to all, and this board in particular, to anyone and everyone who has been affected by colon cancer. It is a place to come to to find information from those who have been there and survived, or who are currently going through the journey who can share their experiences, whether you have strong religious beliefs of any denomination or none at all.

For those who are slamming any of us who have stated that we are offended by the religious posts, even though we have stated the obvious, that this is not a religious board, have any of you actually read what we have said? No where did we tell anyone to pack up their bags. No where did we slam the religion. No where did we indicate that no one is allowed to have their beliefs. I would love for anyone on this board to refer to a post where any of this was ever said. All that was ever said were reminders that this is a non-religious board, and as such, ALL beliefs are to be respected and to be fair to all beliefs, then quotes/praising one God over another on a board set up for cancer surviving support is not acceptable.

Did it ever dawn on anyone here that maybe, just maybe the CSN staff talked to Diane and asked her to not post religious posts but that if she found others with similar beliefs to hers, that she was more than free to correspond with them in PMs?

So why the outcry that she should "stand up for what she believes in" "Don't let a couple of non-believers tell you what you can and can't do!" (That in itself is a total insult... because I and others don't talk about our beliefs on a Cancer Support board does not mean we don't have them) Are religious egos really that fragile that a "couple of non-believers" could ever possibly make someone stop believing because they have been asked to stop the preaching? Come on people... let's get real here.

EVERYONE is welcome on a public board... EVERYONE deserves to feel they can ask questions or talk about their experiences without the fear of having to join any particular religion to feel like they fit in... or, in my personal experience, being TOLD by other members to ignore the topics that I don't like because of the religious messages. Does anyone realize how many topics I have had to ignore completely since this started? Has that changed anything? No. Even topics I have started myself, I've had to ignore because the religious element has come in. Isn't that ironic?? I've had to ignore my own topics.

What I don't understand is why, in any society there are rules that everyone is expected to follow... whether you agree with the rules or not, they are the rules. When someone breaks the rules and is adamant that they don't believe in the rules, why is it that anyone who reminds them these are the rules, gets slammed?

Personally, my beliefs are not in jeopardy of me giving them up because others feel they have to label me a non-believer (how they come to this name calling when they don't even know what my beliefs are just makes me shake my head). If anything, it proves to me that I'm on the right track. Nor do I have to discuss or defend them... they just are what they are.

If people want to leave, then they are leaving of their own choosing. No one is holding a gun to their head and running them off. If they want to stay and participate, they are welcome to. If they want to bring religion/beliefs/politics to the board, then do it in PMs or email with others who want to have that discussion.

I'm not opening this up for discussion... but wanted to explain that there's no reason for anyone to feel "sad" (??) or "uncomfortable" for fear of what they are stepping into. I didn't even want to respond to this whole silliness but it blows me away how things can be twisted around until everyone is made to feel uncomfortable.

If you want to argue the above, then PM me... but keep it off the boards and let's get the board back to what it is best for... support and hope for this nasty disease.

    Hi Cheryl,

I know you said, "if you want to argue the above, then PM me...", and I am NOT going to start posting multiple responses like I did when all this came up a month ago (if there's any more to be said about it after this posting of mine, I will do it via PRIVATE message), BUT... I don't think it's fair that you just had your long say in this post and then tell anyone else to just PM you about it, when you're the one who actually flagged Diane's message, which is why you know the CSN staff then talked to her. (I wouldn't be surprised if my post here now gets flagged and removed too), but hopefully not.

After all that happened before, WHY did you feel the need to flag it and get all this stirred up again??

No, the logo on the top where it says American Cancer Society does not say it belongs to any particular religion, belief system, etc., but as Ron said and as you agreed with him in your first line that "whatever gets you through is a good thing", then why are so offended by the fact that many people "get through" by their faith and sharing it with others? I believe it's my mission in life to share with others what I believe God has done for me. I am not proselytizing my faith here, I'm not going about explaining to others how to become a Christian, but to say "I'm praying for you" or even to quote Bible verses that may be truly comforting to others, I don't understand how that's a problem for someone who doesn't believe in the same way. You and a few others have talked often times about "sending healing energies" and other such things, which is not something I personally believe in. No one has ever mentioned that before (I don't think, anyhow) as being offensive or not being appropriate because we know that other people have a right to express what they think and believe. So many talk about tolerance, which I think can be a good thing. However, it seems that "tolerance" in today's world is for everyone and everything except Christians. I wouldn't dream of flagging someone's post as offensive because they talk about positive vibes or healing energies- they have the right to do that and it doesn't offend me. Please, on the other side, let it go. It does seem that more people here talk about God, praying, etc. and so many have expressed that people praying for them or quoting Bible verses is not a problem for them and they'd be upset to think that it couldn't be done or talked about anymore.

Okay, I'm done with this issue, so far as publicly going on the board about it- if anyone cares to comment on this subject anymore to me, then I will respond to private messages. I know I just posted recently saying I wouldn't be posting as often anymore, but I couldn't stop myself from this one- so sorry. I'll still be around off and on.

    Take care,

    Nana??
What are you going on about?? I recall sending you a PM (yes, folks, a PM, suggesting back then to be careful what you are suggesting to people regarding diet because people ARE on different diets for different reasons... and some under doctors' specifications. I did NOT make a big deal out of it at the time and have never since... nor have I ever given any diet-related advice on the public boards, other than to possibly mention what I may or may not be sensitive to myself. So don't go throwing a hissy fit now, on a post that was given to you as a friend in private!

My mistake... I will certainly not make that one again.

As for the response to Lisa... I will take that to PM just as I had suggested anyone do rather than beat this dead horse to death.

    Sheesh!!
