THANK YOU, Joe! (Big sigh of relief!)Aortus said:Actually, Chicago is a fine town.
My cousin got married in Oak Park a few years back, so the Moopster and I made a vacation of it. It was wonderful.
And in case you wonder what the "23" in Moopy23 stands for, let me say only that I consider myself merely Moopy's second favorite tall bald guy. Back when MJ was dominating the court, all life STOPPED at our house while Moopy watched the Bulls. And when he came back to Chicago with the Wizards, I dropped more money than I care to remember for a pair of third-deck seats so she could go see him. The look on her face when he finally came out on to the court to an explosive standing ovation was worth every dime I paid.
Well, looks like you were posting to me while I was posting to Rita! Thank you for your forgiveness, Mr. Professor. I am truly grateful, and humbled by your generosity of spirit! Oak Park is beautiful, have been there many times for various reasons. Favorite was the Frank Lloyd Wright homes tour, many years ago.
Another confession (dangerous, I now know, for sure) amongst a couple of baseball nuts - NOT my favorite sport, anyway. Hence, my schizophrenic attitude towards the whole Sox/Cubs competition - in addition to my half-breed upbringing. :-)
BASKETBALL IS MY FAVORITE SPORT!!! This is primarily due to twelve years of parochial school - the only type of sport/team the school could $ afford was a basketball team. (My husband favors football.)
MOOPY IS MY KINDRED SPIRIT!!! MJ WAS BETTER THAN ANY ROCK STAR, EVER!, during the reign of the Bulls!!! We signed up for cable TV just so I could WATCH the games, vs. sitting in the kitchen listening to a radio. Thanks for explaining the "23" - would've never dawned on me.
OK, all is well with the world now...
Kind regards, Susan0 -
What the heck is an FIB?Aortus said:Pshaw
Some of my favorite cousins are FIBs. And they would tell you (I'm pretty sure) that some of their favorite cousins are Cheeseheads. Also, if you'll check out my comments above, you will see that the name of Michael Jordan is, even today, never taken in vain at our house!
In advance... Yes, I accept the dunce cap. And, I'll go sit in the corner now.
I get an "F" for not knowing all these darned abbreviations, I know, I know...
Kind regards, Susan0 -
Too funny! :-)Aortus said:All in good fun, Susan
Moopy and I were united in marriage by Rev. Ray O'Connor - a Chicago boy whose devotion to the White Sox is exceeded only by his devotion to God. We ribbed each other mercilessly. One day I was driving down a main street in town and found myself stuck between some clown in a black Chevy. I got by him in the left lane and was just about to honk my horn and flip him off when... it was a kindly looking older guy in a White Sox cap. You guessed it... it was Father Ray.
Later on I told him that story. I asked him innocently what the penance was for flipping off a priest. "Ha!" he replied. "You think there could be any penance for flipping off a priest?"
No sin on your soul, thank goodness!
Kind regards, Susan0 -

Hey again Christmas Girl,
I used to teach at local Lutheran schools. Love those kids. I actually miss them a lot. Work in nursing now though. Joe did you say you were from Oak Creek? I taught at Grace Lutheran in Oak Creek for 1 year. (Too much of a drive from Grafton right during rush hour!)
I keep thinking I'm going to log off for the night but don't seem to get it done.
Have a great night everyone, if I actually follow through one of these times.0 -

I'll delete it from my memory. (Which won't be very hard for me since I can hardly remember where I live much less where you live.)
Speaking of memory...or should I say forgetting. Here's a good one.
Wednesday evening I came home from shopping and got out of my car to unload my purchases. By the time I was going to close the car up I had lost the keys. They were nowhere to be found. My hubby looked all over the car, I emptied my bags, my purse, everything. Finally Thursday evening I remembered that I quickly hid 1 bag that had my husbands birthday gift in it. Wala, there they were, in that bag. (This was last night mind you) Then this morning...I could not find my hubbys birthday gift anywhere. I wished him a happy birthday and told him that someday I would find his gift and give it to him (it was a Brewers jacket). I searched and searched when I got home from work tonight. No where. About an hour ago I remembered that I decided to take it out of the bag and hang it up so it wouldn't he wrinkled so he actually got his birthday gift on his birthday. He still loves me. Just gotta love this chemo brain! Keeps me on my feet - since my mind doesn't work.
Have a great night!
Well, Rita - I'm glad it ALL worked out in the end!
Yep - gotta LOVE that darned chemo brain thing! :-)

Grace Lutheran School on Pennsylvania Avenue was built after I moved, but I actually grew up two blocks from Grace Lutheran Church on Puetz Road. If you walked out of the south entrance of the church and walked seven houses south on Carol Court, you could look to your left and see our old house.0 -

No fair!!! I knew it, I just knew it... As soon as I hit that "Post Comment" button - flinched, full of regret. Afraid I'll lose friends, through no fault of my own. Out of prejudice towards where I was born & live? Sheesh... Why oh why can we NOT delete our own posts??? (Just kidding!)
Especially considering the hurtful events of the last 24 hours, I decided HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY!!! Figured I'd better own up to it, the sooner the better.
At least you're still "talking" to me, Rita. Thank goodness! I truly appreciate it! THANK YOU, dear! Now, I'll wait to see if Mr. Professor has crossed me off his list. I know Moopy won't...
Kind regards, Susan
You're right, Susan. Never would I mark you off my list of dear friends and sisters. And to think--we are both MJ and Bulls fans!!! It was just meant for you to find us here.
P.S. You're kinda stuck with my hubby, too.0 -

The year I taught was one of the last couple in the Peutz Road school. It was the year that I left that they started building the new school. Small world. I really loved it there, just hated driving right through downtown during rush hour each day. I'm not very patient in traffic. Kind of like a Chicago driver. (Just kidding Susan!)
Actually it was more that waste of time spent sitting on the freeway while my family was home waiting for me.
Good night!0 -

Rita ... I certainly understand what you mean about the chemo brain. I used to think it was some flimzy excuse people used for turning into a flake ... but now that I'm one of those flakes ... I know chemo brain is REAL. I never cease to amaze myself at how flakey I am. But ... as you showed us ... we have to laugh at ourselves and what we do (assuming we remember to DO anything!) ... but it sure does make our days interesting ... doesn't it?
I just keep repeating that this is only temporary ... this is only temporary ... this is only temporary .... :-)

I have absolutely no idea whatsoever about where the heck Oak Creek is, never even heard of it! I'm from dreaded CHICAGO, remember?!? (Just teasing...)
Joe mentioned Oak PARK, a town/suburb west of (dreaded) Chicago.
My 12 years of parochial schooling was Catholic (not Lutheran), by the way. I blame this part of my background during those crucial formative years for my adulthood subtle insanity.
Kind regards, Susan
P.S.: You were a teacher, and now a nurse... You are an angel on earth, Rita. :-)0 -

The American sports team thing - just too much to translate, if even possible. Besides, we Midwesterners are a breed apart. Almost have our own language, sorta.
Please note that Mr. Professor has still not explained FIB to me. I have no idea what the heck FIB means.
And to you, tasha_111: what is a "wind up"?
Kind regards, Susan
P.S.: A few of us got a little nuts around here last night, as you can see/read...0 -

Susan a wind-up is when someone is winding you up..lying/testing you/generally playing you up.
OK......I'm going to torture you all with the rules of Cricket!
What is a FIB..? Fib = Lie/ untruth. Fib = short for fibia?
Totally confused here..
