so sorry
Hi Vicki,
Wow- I'm so sorry you've had such an awful reaction and experience.
You know, it could be the hernia or possible infection that made you have such a violent reaction to it- or I guess it also could have been the chemo, like you said. I'm praying for you right now and will continue to do so.
It may not seem like it all right now, but, yes- the cure IS worth it!
"Hang in there" (like you have a choice- lol!) Things will get better.
Praying for blessings to come your way-

Scary Doctor Visit
I'm sorry it's been rough for you. Unfortunately everytime we have to do scans the stuff we drink always taste like crap!! lol I tell my Dr all the time with everything they can do medically today, you would think that they would come up with something that tastes at least a little better. You were right, maybe you should have waited for the scan when you were feeling better but I'm sure you did it because you were nervous about what it was. Unfotunately, once we go thru this lousy cancer, every ache and pain, we right away think the worst. I had alot of tenderness alittle below my bellybutton and to the right for a long time after surgery. It didn't have to be touched to hurt, sometimes I would just feel sharp pains when I was standing. It was scar tissue that formed from surgery plus I have a slight hernia, which is common after surgery. You were lucky that it was only 21/2 hrs at chemo, I usually spent that amopunt of time normally and then when I became allergic to the chemo and needed steroids first, I spent 4-5 hrs there! I can relate to the hot flashes and I have alot of sympathy for you. I had already been thru menopause before cancer, and had been taking hormone replacement beforehand (my gyn said they usually lower the risk of getting cc.... apparently NOT), which I stopped after my diagnosis. Of coure the hot flashes started again but on chemo, I wouldn't even know how to explain HOW HORRIBLE they were. Not only at night but during the day. My onc gave me Effexor which is an antidepressant that is being used for hot flashes,so I'm actually killing two birds with one stone. I call it my two in one pill! lol It helped the depression faster than the hot flashes, but eventually I noticed that they disappeared also HURRAY!!! I have noticed since chemo my overall body temp has changed I'm warmer than I used to be so the cold doesn't bother me quite as much. Is the cure worth it all.....when going thru it sometimes I didn't think so either. I thought 6 months of chemo was forever, but now looking back it went by pretty fast. Now possibly having to go back on chemo, I'm not happy, and I hope I don't have to.But this time I'll know what ot expect, and this time I won't think is it worth it. I know now it most definately is!!!! My thoughts are with you as you going this horrible time. Good luck0 -
awful day!
I am so sorry to hear about the HORRIBLE experience with the scan ... you'd think they could come up with something that's easier to tolerate, especially since we go through ENOUGH CRAP!!!! I do remember the tech saying the sweeter the stuff you drink the higher likelihood it's coming back up, which is why the only stuff they offer is the yummy (?!) banana smoothie! I hope they were thinking about what product they offer while they were cleaning up the mess! I would have loved to see the looks on the faces of the other people in the waiting room with you when you blew! Classic deer in headlights! I know, I get joy out of the weirdest things, but you have to take it where you can get it! I sure am praying that you have a better week on treatment; hope the added fluids help and that if the medication you are on for controlling nausea and vomiting aren't working they can get you something that DOES work. You have been through it and I know you are just wishing for ONE DARN GOOD DAY!!!! Stay strong, gal

I added an update to my post...
Vicki... wow, that was quite the day you had, wasn't it?? I'm so sorry you had to go through that and then, after being so sick, had to do the chemo. Not to mention, the hydration didn't seem to help you feel any better
I'm still puzzled over the contrast drink. I have never had to have that (knock on wood) when I get a CAT scan. I get hooked up to an IV and they administer the contrast dye via the IV. Although they have a heck of a time trying to get a vein, it sure beats having to drink some yucky tasting drink that I hear so many people hate or get sick on.
I hope you don't have to do that too often!! And I'm sending soothing stomach thoughts out to the universe for you so that this chemo period won't be so bad. You take it easy and don't try to over do anything. Your poor body needs time to rest and heal!!
Hugggggs and healing thoughts!!

I got both when it was a CT of the gut but only the i.v. dye for the lungs. I don't remember the flavor of the drink, but I followed the refrigeration suggestion and found it was a bit tasty. I AM weird! LOL0 -

Hmmm... maybe that's the difference, although, for the life of me, I don't remember drinking anything back when I was getting CT scans of the intestinal areas. I could be wrong... it wouldn't be the first time my memory has failed me, and the CT scans I've had over the last year have been for he lungs and the adrenal gland area... but funny that I wouldn't remember the drinks, especially if they are foul tasting. Hahahaha... trust me, maybe I did have them and I liked them LOL!

Nasty Stuff
Wow, Vicki, so sorry you had such a bad experience with the scan....
hope the results are good when you get the report.
I once did have a throw up from the stuff I had to drink for a CT
scan; first time it ever happened and this was after I had had
several scans over the past year. I had to drink it there in
the clinic and then they gave me an injection also. You have
a choice of cherry or grape.....well, I did ok until I got home,
then, like you, I pitched all over the place and had to clean it
up. I also had the shakes and could not get warm. Bad time.
From now on I think I will be getting PET/CT scan, that's what
the docs want instead and for that they only give me an injection,no
stuff to drink. Goes easier.
Wishing the best for you,

Have you tried Emend for the upset stomach? It was the only thing that really worked for me. Zofran didn't even touch the nausea. Just a suggestion.
Hope you feel better soon.

Vicki,
How horrible is that? You feel like crap and get to be embarrassed, too. You can do this and you'll feel better soon. Let's hope they got a great scan and it will be ok. You will be ok. Sorry this sucks so much.

I have had the worst week. The chemo reaction is so bad I am still bedridden. I have had 5 different anti-nausea drugs pushed in, plus one orally. They stopped the chemo Thursday. I can't even walk right now. A few more days, they say, and I'll turn around. Dr says next month we will change the dose and try a few other things. But I truly don't know if I can do this again.
GOOD NEWS is the scans were clear! No mets, no blockage, just radiation after effects showed up, so it looks like a hernia or scars. That we can deal with.
Thanks for listening. Vicki0 -
HOORAY
Wonderful news, nothing better than hearing those words that
the scan is clear......that should you give the umph! to
get back in the ring and battle again......I am sure you
don't feel like it right now but given a good rest time,
you will be...you're a fighter.

Yes, I had to take a deep breath. ?the most likely scenario is hernia...my surgery was Feb 4, so almost 3 months. I just was alone and letting my imagination run.
I appreciate all of the support. Whatever it is, we can fix it.
Many hugs, Vicki
if that picture by your name is your baby, then yes "this cure is worth it." My son is what kept me going so many times. So many people, I am sure, love and need you Vicki.
Try to hang in,

That is my youngest grandson, who turned 1 on April 4. And yes, I want to see HIS children! I just have to whine and carry on this week...I'll get past it.
Thank you, Vicki0 -

Vicki, I'm so sorry to hear how sick you've been. That sounds awful! I sure hope this morning you're feeling much better!
Glad it's finished for a few weeks and hope those lowered doses mean no more sickness!
I'm so happy to hear your scans were clear! That is great news! Whew!

Yes, as my chemo nurse said today, I got my a$$ kicked this time. But the doctor is working up a reduced plan for next time. I can't quit...I'm too close to the finish line. Only two more rounds and I am done.
Funny thing, not much stays down during this time, but today I got a craving for, of all things, Trix cereal! I haven't eaten that for years. Hubby went out and bought some and I had two big bowls...and it stayed with me! **** looked at me and said "You're not pregnant are you???" LOL! Whatever it takes.
Many hugs, Vicki0 -

Hi Vicki,
2 more rounds... you're almost there.!
Funny thing about cravings.... **** is craving a Bob's Pizza about 4 days a week. (Mind you, before chemo he was eating a strict anti-cancer diet but now he is eating what he can eat.) The owner of the pizza place has caught on that we are buying 4 pizza's a week and he found out why. He's discounted ****'s pizza's until he is done with chemo. I just love the goodness of people. Enjoy your Trix!!
Aloha,
Kathleen0
