    bcc skin cancer
Hi, I just had surgery on my cheek for stage 2 bcc and an so worried about ths scar, how are you doing and does it get better, I cannot look people in the eyes anymore because of this surgery, will my spirit heal also because I am very down these days. I never went in the sun, anyone who knows me cannot believe I have skin cancer, it always made me sick, the sun. So with that sometimes I am angry because I did wear sunscreen and always avoided the sun. I am 53 years old and know I need some support, thank you for any help you can give me, Judy

    Skin Cancer
I just discovered this site - won't bore you with my story - I told it in the MOHS surgery discussion. My surgery was last summer. I wasn't a sun worshiper either. I'm 58 and hadn't spent any time in the sun since my early 20's. Anyway, I had reconstructive surgery and had an ugly scar from the top of my nose to my chin - lip pulled to the side. My surgeon told me it would take about six months and he was right. Scars WILL fade and lips will even go back to their normal position. It does take time. Different things work for different people - ask your doctor for suggestions. Mine recommended massaging with Vit E. I did that. Now I use a little Dermablend and it's hardly noticeable. People do tend to stare at first - I just used that as an opportunity to tell them to stay out of the sun! Only one person said something hurtful to me and he seemed to think it was a joke. Believe me, this is not a joking matter!
Best of luck to you - this will get better with time.

    My Plastic Surgeon
I had numerous Squamos and Basel cell cancers on my face and body. One squamos required what is known as a skin flap which entailed about sixty stitches from my left ear to my nose and back down to my lip.The initial post surgery was not so good but after some hyperbarick treatment and some scar treatment by a good physical therapist you can hardly notice. I have a great deal of faith in my plastic surgeon and would be glad to let you know his name. Unfortunately in November I had a stage two Melanoma on my chest. This is the first one and I hope the last. Good Luck
