AC followed by Taxol

A good friend of mine is going through chemo for breast cancer right now. They are not sure if it is Stage I or Stage IV as she does have some tiny spots on her pelvic bones but they are too tiny to biopsy so they are not sure if they are cancer or not. She is having 4 AC treatments, every other week, followed by 4 Taxol treatments every other week. She just completed her final AC treatment and it has really knocked her on her butt. I had 6 treatments of TAC and no 'taxol' so I'm just wondering if she can expect the 4 taxol treatments to be any easier than the four AC treatments? Anyone have any expierience with this regemin? I would love to be able to give her some hope of relief!

    Hi Rita, I had ACT. The AC was very hard for me but the Taxol was not bad. Some bone pain, and fatigue. But none of the yucky nauseaus feeling or vomiting that I had w/AC. However some have posted about pretty severe pain, neuropathy, fingernails falling out(yuck) and other side effects. But from what my onc had told me beforehand, those are fairly rare.

    Hi Rita,
    I have not been through the same medications that your friend has but I did want to let you know that everyone is different when it comes to these drugs. Some breeze through and others don't. Any time there is a new symptom or side effect, let your onc. know immediately. They will be able to either give you something to help or change dosage or even medications. Always remember, they work for you.

    Your friend is very lucky to have a friend like you. You and your friend will be in my thoughts. Please let us know what happens.

    I finished 4 AC treatments and had my 1st of 4 taxol infusions this past Tuesday. I have some achiness off and on--not constant. My onc said to use motrin or advil instead of tylenol as it's more effective for the bone and joint issues. She also has me on glutamine(found in health food stores--like GNC--I take 10 mg three times a day starting the day after infusion, for three days--plus B6(100mg) three times a day the whole time I'm on the taxol). I've really had no issues so far(knock on wood). No nausea, and no bad taste in my mouth. Best of luck to both. Cheryl

    Thanks everyone. It seems a bit encouraging for her that maybe she won't be quite so sick while just getting the Taxol. Watching someone else go through all of this crap is almost as bad as going though it myself.

    Taxol was a walk in the park....
    compared to the AC. I, too, lost the remain 'dead protein parts' (eyebrows, fingernails stopped growing). But, other than the 'taxol tingles' in my fingers, I recovered after infusions much faster....

    I drank alot of water (4 quarts a day) day before, day of, day after infusion. This helped ALOT!
