I don't want to bring anyone down...
And, I am so happy for all of you that have gotten thru chemo and radiation. I have 15 more radiation treatments and then I am done with that. Thank God! It seems like forever. I just want to remind all of you to always get your mammograms, do your self checks and don't let your guard down. The reason I say this is because I was 23 years clean and then got a NEW breast cancer in my other breast. It was not a recurrence..it was a whole new cancer. I assumed after all of those years that I was safe, but, I wasn't. So, just be aware and take care of yourselves. You are all such special, lovely ladies!

Welcome, Susan. Like all of the posters on this board, you will add another dimension to the life after cancer area. There are those who are not yet started with treatment, some in treatment now, and others who have completed treatment and are in their 5 year hormone theraphy era. Those who are post treatment, and enjoying the life, are truly a blessing, and bring hope and inspiration to all of us. We are all survivors, and hold each other together with our advice and hope. Again, welcome. Hugs.

    Hello, Jeanne D!
You hang in there with the radiation treatments - 15 to go, then done!

And thanks for the very important reminder that we must always remain ever vigilant about our own health. I fully realize that those currently undergoing treatment have enough on their plates right now. But, thereafter, regular medical check-ups & taking the best possible care of ourselves is a forever mission.

    Kind regards, Susan

Thanks so much! Yes, we are all survivors - and our breast cancer experiences unite us in a way not possible with those outside of it. I'm already very glad I finally decided to jump on board, and instinctively knew that the best place - the best group - would be right here... Within the American Cancer Society. Am really looking forward to getting to know all of you. Thanks, again.

    Kind regards, Susan

    Hi Susan,

Just read your introduction...WOW!!! You are so inspiring. I am just starting down this road, at the age of 53. On May 6th I will be having a dbl. mastectomy & recon. After that, I guess the pathology report will decide the next step(s). I am glad you're here. Different perspectives are so valuable, and I love your style!

    Big hugs,

Thanks so much! Yes, nice to meet; but, sorry for the reason. YOUR posts are inspiring, indeed. And, quite entertaining, I might add. Ahhh, a fellow dog lover. Anyone who truly loves their dog(s) is automatically a good-hearted person & a kind spirit, in my mind. Then there's the shared love of plants & all that grows from the earth. However, you are a professional. I am a mere amateur. Best of luck, again, with your new job. You'll ROCK that family, I'm sure. So happy for you, for getting on with real life outside of "cancer world"... But, since I just got here - I'm hoping you won't leave this group any time soon. You have so much to offer others.

    Kind regards, Susan

Thanks, so much! Am so very glad to be here, already! I, too, have been inspired by others.

I can tell you're a fellow dog lover! That's Abigail, my beloved "once in a lifetime" canine best friend, ever!

    Kind regards, Susan

Once in a livetime best friend...
Love Abigail's picture. I'm a cat guy- should include her in my next pic update.
This particular post has helped me to realize that I can't get back to my old life as I have been trying to do. There is a new live out there somewhere for me- I just have to find it, but first I need to let go of the idea of getting back to the way things were B.C..
I like the new me that I am discovering, my outlook is different, my priorities have changed. I joined the Y to get some much needed exercise. Learning how to cook a little.
Thanks for being here for all of us.
Yes there is lift A.C.- just a new and different life.

    Thank you, Bill S.!
Thanks so much! I like kitties, too. I'm simply a dog person. Many folks have both. We're all animal lovers. :-)

Good for you, for the new positives you're embracing. For joining the Y, for learning to cook - both of which can help you to be healthier than ever. I hope you keep going in that direction - which is forward. Yeah, I believe the vast majority of us learn to redefine our outlooks & priorities, thereby redefining ourselves. For the better. Like fine-tuning the mind, heart & spirit. It can be a pretty good thing, I think.

I like your "BC" (= before cancer) & "AC" (= after cancer). It's more abbreviated that the initials I've been using: "BBC" (= before breast cancer, which would confuse people, bring to their minds the English TV station) & "ABC" (= after breast cancer, which would make folks think I was speaking of the alphabet).

    Kind regards, Susan

Welcome Susan, and what an appropriate screen name. Love it. I totally agree with your posting, we didn't ask to go on this journey, but here we are and must continue the train ride until we get to our new destination. I was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma on June 1, 2007 and had a radical mastectomy June 7th, 2007 with 7 lymph nodes removed. Mammogram never detected the tumor but found it myself during a self exam. Because it was aggressive, we decided to do the mastectomy followed by 8 rounds of chemotherapy. I was given the CAF cocktail, which was cytoxan, adriamycin and 5FU, because of vascular invasion, my lymph nodes were clean. Did not need to have radiation, so 8 months after my mastectomy I had the tram flap reconstruction. I am finally done with all my surgeries. I may need to touch up the nipple tattooing but that should be it. It's always great to hear from long time survivors, gives us much to look forward to. Hugs, Lili

Hi, Susan, I am so glad you found us. Your outlook on post-cancer life is inspiring. I welcome you also and look forward to your posts.

By the way, I love the photo--what a sweet-looking pup.

Just wanted to thank you for your wonderful support. People who have not gone through cancer treatment, surgery, etc. do not understand but this group does. Support is the greatest emotional booster that there is. I appreciate your kidness. Do you know of any other cancer patients on Xeloda and is it working. My markers are in the 300+ range now so we are trying everying.

Thank you for your kind words! Yes, I believe we here would all agree - even if we're blessed with loving support from family & friends, only those who actually travel the journey can truly understand all that comes along with the cancer trip. Which is precisely what brings us together within a forum like this one. And, thank goodness for it!

Big shout out - THANK YOU, American Cancer Society, for providing all of us with the Cancer Survivors Network! :-)

Honestly, NeNe, and in answer to your specific question - no, I had never even heard of Xeloda until I read your post. Almost embarrassed to admit that, amongst so many here who are much more educated than I about so many aspects of breast cancer treatments. However, after reading your post - I did "Google" Xeloda, and read some very promising information about it. So, best wishes to you for successful treatment.

    Kind regards, Susan
