Just out of the Hospital
First of all Happy Easter! Hope everyone is enjoying a wonderful day with friends and family.
I just got out of the hospital yesterday. Started having a Fever late Tuesday night early Wednesday morning. By noon it was up to 102.8, called my ONC and they said to get to the ER right away. So I did, felt like crapola, worst I have felt in a long long time. WEll they did lots and lots of blood work a chest xray and pretty much came up with nothing. So they decided to keep me over night just incase. Well the fever broke by wednesday night, and stayed away for the whole night. Thursday morning when the doc came in he said since the fever was gone that he wanted me to stay one more night and I could go home on Friday. I said okay, like I had a choice really...LOL Anyway the fever came back, only got to 101.4 this time but was enough they kept me one more day. But that was the last of the fever and by Saturday I had had enough of hospital food (think I was starving myself) and the fever had not returned, cultures were neg, blood counts were good, so they sent me home. I was in the middle of my scheduled round 6 of chemo, the releaseing doc said to wait till my next appointment (which is this wednesday) to talk with my ONC before starting the Xeloda again. My partner is worried about that, so I will call my ONC tomorrow and just ask what he thinks if I should wait. Oh I forgot to mention I have to take 10 days of anitbiotics, does anyone know if that will keep me from doing Chemo? Maybe thats why the releasing doc said to wait, hmmm questions questions...
Anyway I am out and feeling much better. Got some catching up to do there are so many new posts.

I'm glad you're out of he hospital and feeling better. I don't know about the whole antibiotic chemo interaction. I think IV 5fu would have more of an impact than xeloda. So you might be ok. I believe it's very important to get your treatments on time, especially the later ones when you have the cancer on the ropes. good luck, happy easter0 -

So sorry to hear that you have been through a difficult time;
it sounds like you are recovering fairly well....I had some
after surgery issues while on chemo and was able to take an
antibiotic; I was on Folfox; but best to talk with your onc
before you do.

I am going to call my ONC first thing in the am and ask him what he wants me to do. This is a first for me during chemo so will have to wait and see what he says.
I am feeling better, just a bit tired. A hospital is not a place to get sleep, they wake you up at all hours just to check on you, take blood and whatever else they think they need.

Feeling better, glad to be out of the hospital, hate those places, although they seem to be my second home these last few years. I am waiting to hear from my ONC, either way I see him on Wednesday. It kind of sucks cuz I had it planned where I wouldnt be on chemo for the Life Relay on the 24th. I am looking forward to going and I didnt want to be sick. So we will see.

Have you heard from Buzzard? I sure do miss him, please tell him I said hello.

I am feeling better. How is your hubby doing? Has he been able to ride anymore? I ride too, but havent in a while due to not feeling so well. But with the weahter getting so nice, I plann on getting out and riding myself. I miss it too.

Antibiotics
When I was doing radiation chemo and xeloda I had a urinary tract infection and was taking an antibiotic and it didn't affect any of my treatment I still took the xeloda and the iv chemo.0 -

Hi Beth,
Wow- what a bummer that you had to deal with hospitalization for an unknown infection.
I'm glad you are feeling better now! I don't know about the antibiotic, or if it would matter what particular antibiotic you're on. I know back when I was on Erbitux and was taking the antibiotic minocycline, that I was able to continue with the chemo (which was Erbitux, Camptosar, and Avastin at that time).

Grandbaby is coming along well. Mom is still fighting morning sickness but getting better. We are so excited, cant wait till October to meet my grandbaby.

I will make it. They are going to have a tent set up and I will be able to rest when I need to. I am very excited its my first Relay and there are so many things planned for that night. Its going to be so much fun. And to get to meet so many new people that have beat the beast, it will be great to meet them.

Glad to hear you're out of the hospital, I also feel being in the hospital twice in the last month that it's a second home to me now as well, there is no way to rest in those places, when they're getting your vitals every 3 hours, to giving heparin shots while you were sleeping....It's scary though, that they didn't know what kind of infection you had that was causing your fever. I know my onc schedules the chemo around after the antibiotics are done, so maybe you're onc will do that, she likes me to be healed from everything before putting me back on chemo. Glad to hear your daughter is doing well as well! Hope to talk to you soon!

Hi Beth,
I'm sorry you had this wierd fever. It may have been something your body would normally fight off without you even noticing, but chemo has a way of taking your whole body's concentration, so those microbes get away with stuff they normally wouldn't. Hah! I guess you showed them who's boss!
Seriously, I'm glad you're home. A hospital is the least restful place to be, but we're sure glad they're there when we need them!
So glad to hear your grandchild is coming along fine. You have to post the picture as soon as birthing is done!!!
