RIDDLE: There is a common English word that is nine letters long. Each time you remove a letter from it, it still remains an English word - from nine letters right down to a single letter. What is the original word, and what are the words that it becomes after removing one letter at a time?

    Tough one
    tough one...but I got it. I'll be quiet for a few days and see if anyone else gets it.


    startling
    remove the l, and the word becomes: starting
    remove one t, and the word becomes: staring
    remove the a, and the word becomes: string
    remove the r, and the word becomes: sting
    remove the other t, and the word becomes: sing
    remove the g, and the word becomes: sin
    remove the s, and the word becomes: in
    remove the n, and the word becomes: I

    This was a in word puzzle I recently did. I struggled to remember them all, but here goes:

    Startling
    starting
    staring
    string
    sting
    sing
    sin
    in
    I

    As a writer/publisher/journalist, I LOVE words! And if I am right, I won't guess next time....

    I did not see that in your post...honest! I got it from a word puzzle book at the chemo center. I like to do the puzzles while I am being infused. I will admit that the puzzle book had hints to help. The answers to the hints were the next word.
