Thanks for posting that, there was a Seinfeld episode that deal with a proctologist who had a vanity license plate that read "A$$MAN". Funny episode.

    Not sure I understand, Krista?
Colorectal surgeons do surgery up here, but they also do colonoscopies and sigmoidoscopies and anything else related to the colorectal areas. It was my colorectal surgeon who actually found my cancer after the gastroenterologist saw my CAT scan and diagnosed me with diverticulitis. My colorectal surgeon said that he'd like to take a look see at what was going on inside before they sent me off on my own with antibiotics for the diverticulitis. Needless to say, he found the large tumour that had perforated the intestinal wall and didn't want me to leave the hospital, not even just to go home and make arrangements for my dog (which I did anyways). The gasto was waaaaay off the mark on his diagnosis and he hadn't even suggested a colonoscopy!

Needless to say, when the surgery was over and healed, the surgeon recommended I have a colonoscopy because he had only done a sigmoidoscopy. I had the choice of the gastro doing it or the colorectal surgeon... needless to say, it wasn't going to be the gastro ;)

So colorectal surgeons do colonoscopies and sigmoidoscopies as well as surgeries... don't your surgeons do the whole thing for their patients?

    Mine sure didn't
Hi Cheryl! No, my colorectal surgeon did none of that whatsoever to me! I have a different doc for every different part of my body. My surgeon only gave me a rectal exam immediately after my diagnosis from a GI just to see if she could feel the tumor, but never again had anything to do with that area. In fact, we are now waiting for the GI to dilate me before she'll do my reversal. I guess around here the docs don't step on each other's toes! Your surgeons do WAY more than mine does, yet mine gets the booku bucks! Oh, she also took out my gallbladder! I guess that's why i found the song a little contradicting to colorectal surgery! Now i understand why you guys find it relates.

    Many hugs!

By the way, what an adorable baby! Grandbaby?

My colorectal surgeon (in the Denver area) also does the follow-up colonoscopies, sigmoidoscopies, ect. He is happy to work with my GI, or do them himself. He also works closely with my oncologist for pain management, etc. I guess I have a great team.

    Different approaches
Hehehe... well, it's true, the song wouldn't make much sense if your "Colorectal Surgeons" don't do everything that they sing about in the song ;) Us Canadians may have an off the wall sense of humour, but it's usually based on something in real life LOL!!

    Huggggggs,

    Navy Surgeons....
Bob and I receive our healthcare through the active duty military system. Here in Charleston the Navy is the primary provider of medical services, and for our scopes - yearly colonoscopies and EGDs (I go every three months for EGDs because of the stomach issue) - we see a Navy surgeon. We have seen two different Navy surgeons here and both have been FANTASTIC. Our first surgeon that did our scopes was Dr. Slappy...yes, I know...when he first introduced himself I thought it must be a nickname of sorts and I stupidly let out one of those snorty kind of giggles...he quickly and uncomfortably assured me his name really is, Dr. Slappy.

Dr. Slappy is one of the very few doctors I've encountered on this journey who actually is well informed about HNPCC (Hereditary Non-Polyposis Colon Cancer) and could advise me in a meaningful way. Great doctor.

Anyway, I had my scopes first, and Bob followed and had his second. I tried to convince Bob to let me write "Spank Me" on his rear with a Sharpie before his scope as a little stab at humor for Dr. Slappy. Unfortunately Bob didn't think it was so funny.....

So yes, surgeons here do see our rears...with cameras no less....UGH!

Thanks for the post Rob - the song is a real HOOT!

Dr. Slappy! I bet he cringes every time he goes in to a new patient! You can't POSSIBLY be the first to laugh, and i would think by now he's used to it! :) Totally get a friend to write on your behind the next time if Bob won't help out. Or perhaps Dr. Slappy doesn't have a sense of humor?! My docs have to or they can't tolerate me! Humor helps out a number of tense scenarios! I asked my surgeon to give me a lift when he removed my first port ;)
