I was recently seen by Dr. Tewari in NYC and set up for OR in August and ordered a transrectal MRI for the prostate. Has anyone had one? I need to schedule one near the Pittsburgh area, but can't seem to find anyone to do it...anyone know of who I can go to to have it done? thanks.

thanks JoeMac, your information was helpful. Are you a Steeler or Penguin fan? Did you see the Pirates beat the Yankees last night?JoeMac said:Aloha Bones22,

No, not much of a sports fan, sorry. We live on the Hamakua coast of the Big Island near Honokaa. Retired ... growing a little coffee ... cancer took a big hit on us ... had a lot of help from our church family...angels. Get as many opinions as you can before starting treatment...even watchful waiting.0 -
Transrectal MRI
I had my prostaectomy done in Nov 08 by Dr. Tewari
His treatment is slightly unusual as he requires this 'invasive' MRI.
Most other surgeons do not require it, as they say that the prostate 'moves' and that any benefit they get from the MRI can be seen easily at surgery.
Dr. Tewari feels that he gets a huge benefit of this image as a tool as he approaches the surgery.
I had it done (Tewari requires it to be done WITHIN 3 weeks of surgery) at Yale in CT.
Be prepared for a very uncomfortable insertion of the magnetic probe that will remain there for approx. 45 minutes while you lay on your back in the MRI machine.
I have to admit, next to the biopsy, this was very difficult for me.
I went alone to the MRI, I suggest you have some support with you, it was a tough visit.
Feel free to email me at cobrabite427@yahoo.com if I can provide more detail.
Good Luck! Dr. Tewari is awesome, I knew the minute I met him that he was the one to help me.0
