9 down 3 to go. and where is everybody?
My daughter got her first real experience going with me this time. She went in when I was going for blood work and watched them access the port, when the blood was drawn however, she looked ill, they gave her water she said she couldn't watch and left. when I left the room she was on the floor in the reception area with the nurses around her asking if she was ok. The poor kid was sweating bullets, white as a ghost! I just had to laugh, but Nick came around the corner and laughed also, telling her, "well If I am ever in trouble I am sure I will die!" He got her laughing also, but I had to tell him that's why he needs to know his neighbors!
I've sort of been gone most of the week, but was lurking yesterday - where is everyone? I am glad to see Donna is ok, but anyone hear from NanaB? Also glad to see most everyone is doing well. Best wishes to all of you!

I hope it works out with your treatments. In my 180 some odd treatments of chemo I never once had it stopped because of blood work. Go figure. It's funny how some people can't take the site of people get stuck with a needle.
I've been pricked more times than Paris Hilton!

Hey girl, sorry to hear about your daughter getting sick, I don't think mine would be able to watch either, though they've watched the home health nurse take it out of me.
You should of seen my daughter's face today when my husband was helping me empty my colostomy bag..it was priceless lol...I'm still feeling so sore and trying my best to learn this "Other Way" of going to the bathroom, I think I'm getting better at it though!
Too bad about your WBC, that's when my onc had me get that shot of Neulasta, to bring it up, though also the perforation started, but the WBC did come up, and who knows, maybe it was a good thing they gave me that shot, since it made my blood levels good, and I got through surgery well. Maybe your onc would consider those shots instead of delaying chemo? I wonder if there is anything else that can be done to keep those WBC's up?0 -

Sorry to hear about your legs and headaches... hopefully that Vicodin will nip that in the bud. I know my upper legs were aching and aching and it never dawned on me that it might have been the chemo that was causing it! Duh!
That's kind of funny about your daughter's reaction, although apparently not uncommon at all
But you might suggest nursing may not be the career for her if she's looking for a career (grin).

Low potassium?
My potassium was low after my second treatment and my legs really hurt. I had a headachey feeling but I'm not one to get headaches.
I'm so sorry to hear you feel so icky after this one! Hope those WBC's climb right back up and you can get this OVER with! Right?

Darlin Girl...there you are...9 down and 3 to go. We are neck and neck sister oxy. I had 6 to do and now I am down to 3.....it's a sprint to the finish line yeeeeeh the oxy sisters are done! Dream on Dreamgirl...our day is coming.
Haha on the help your daughter gave. When i went to have my 40 liver re-section staples out My 27 year old daughter thought she would be a good kid and come with momsie. Same thing.....pale, fighting for breath, doctor had to attend to her. Ahhhhhh we love them so much. Some people really can't take the sight of a needle and Jess is one of them....no nursing for her.
Ok Daydreamer....I get infused on Thurs if blood is good on Wed. Good luck with your blood work. I will be thinking of you and sending extra double triple hugs. On by the way it's supposed to be -2 here on thurs.....wouldn't you know it!!!

I'm sending cyber hugs to you Daydreamer and Mags... one more treatment down and out of the way this week for you both! Nasty business but then you will be down to only 2 more!!
Mags... I think you should come out West for your remaining treatments. No snow out here and rumour has it it is going to get up to 19C this week (for the non-metric on the boards, that's the equivalent of approx. 66.2F)

That seems so far away, although I think we may hit 50 by the end of the week here. I miss warm so much!
Thanks all - I'm a bit more bounced back today. Nick has been making fun of me after the vicodin nite - he said that the previous 2 treatments it hurt for him to watch since there is nothing he can do, but this time, although vicodin doesn't exactly get rid of pain, it certainly makes you not care. I was cleaning out bathroom cabinets and anything else I could do up here. Would have cleaned the garage but it's too cold! But, within a few hours of the needle coming out Thursday, I was just exhausted. I know I've read that it takes about 48 hours after for the chemo to be out of the system, and that seems to be the case. I'm tired today, but I worked this morning, and the sun is out, sort of want to go do something, just don't know what.
And no, don't think Amanda will be a nurse! She wants to be an ultra sound tech.
Phil - that was so bad it was good - got me laughing!

You go Mags! We're almost there! I can;t wait til I'm done with the Oxy thing...I have to laugh about your daughter tho, and I am not much different! I had to take my son for stitches years ago, and when they stuck the needle in his forehead, I passed out! I can take only so much, but the site of blood - ick!0 -

I'm glad you're on the downside of the Oxy and received some pain medicine. I had my 5th round of 12 and this last one was really bad...honsestly it's the first one that was really bad. I probably should have gone to the hospital, but I was home alone and to weak to go...I finally fell asleep. I hope your daughter chooses a non-medical career. My daughter can't change the cat litter box without gagging or vomiting! Thank goodness she doesn't have children...I don't think she could change a diaper.0 -

I didn't know you were on Oxy. If you don't mind me asking, how are your side effects? Do they change after each chemo treatment? Do they get worse or no. Thanks for the information.0 -

Leg pain
Hey there! I'm glad to see you back. I was getting concerned. What a reaction your daughter had! I always say it's harder on the folks who love you than on yourself.
Regarding the leg pain, you are completely parallel to my experience. I had to stop after 9 treatments, but that number 9 gave me horrible leg pain like deep in the bone. They actually gave me dilaudid for it for a couple of months. After that I went to Tramadol, since you can't stay on dilaudid without becoming addicted. I still get the leg pain, but not as often, and this is over 2 years after chemo.
I recommend you get a bone scan. Turns out there is severe osteopenia, bordering on osteoporosis. Not sure if it is because the chemo threw me into menopause or if the chemo somehow prevented calcium uptake. Either way, get it checked out.
Glad you're over #9 and moving forward. Don't stay away so long; people get worried.

I don't mind you asking at all.....the first two rounds were full of the hand and food neuropathy but it was very ver ycold. Round 3 I wa heartily constipated, had a grand headache and just generall felt unwell for the first 5 or 6 days after infuion. the steroids keep me awake at nignt and I feel all fidgetyand dizzy. My eyes are dry and don't seem to focus. Nose runs like a faucet, cracks at sides of muth. Lots of nausea and some abdominal pain.
I hope this round is not going to get worse

well, not really glad, but it makes me feel better to know that others have felt the leg pain. I couldn't exactly explain how it felt to the doc, other than it started in my hips and seemed to generate down, more of a really bad ache that made me not want to walk. And when I did walk, just a bit unsteady on my feet, and yes deep in the bone. shoot - dilaudid would do it girl! That's what I had for pain after surgery - I asked to take the rest home with me since I paid for it - lol! (no they wouldn't let me).
I was planning on looking into the bone scan after this is over. Osteoperosis runs on my moms side, she is taking boneva, and since this chemo crap did throw me the rest of the way into menopause, figure its a good time to ask since I've already met my deductible for insurance!
Now, on to a nap. Stayed up too late playing guitar hero with my daughter and Nick, and I just can;t take those late nights anymore like I used to!0 -
