What an ordeal!! Shows just how strong you are though. I got my colostomy March 10....2 words of advice - WATER and WALK!! I keep battling constipation pains so make sure you push the liquids and walk as much as you can.
Welcome back!
Just want to let you know we all missed you and were worried about you. Glad to hear that every thing came out ok. Sounds like it was pretty rough there for awhile. Your husband sounds like a great guy. He has stepped up and is there for you. I will continue to keep you in my prayers and hope that all goes well.

Thanks all for thinking of me, and your prayers, you're all so awesome.
Well, those pains I posted about last, led me to going to the local ER Room, who just hooked me up to an IV of Diludin (sp?), and sent me home with a prescription for Prescription strength Alleve....well, when I got home, the pain was still there, and I was having shortness of breath. My hubby said we should go to the James, and went ahead and drove the 2 hours to their OSU Medical CTR ER Room, where they at least took an X-ray, and saw that I had ruptured in my colon, and that bowels were leaking into my belly.. I was told I needed emergency surgery, and may need a colostomy, (which I figured I would have had down the road eventually anyway) but if we didn't have the surgery, I would have died..
The surgery turned out a success, the surgeon told my hubby I was doing remarkable, there was alot of bowels, tumors, and was the worse part of the colon that had all that cancer (sigmoid?) and he said he got it all out, using 11 pints of sea salt in my belly as well, cleaned out my intestines, and I now have bag, and a painful incision which is being healed with a wound vac, it's painful, but it's supposed to heal the wound very fast and it looks really good, with no infections. I spent 9 days in the hospital getting better...I went in Tuesday night, and just got out today, and not a day went by that I wasn't thinking of you all here, and how alot of you have gone through this as well..
Can I be safe to say that I am officially a semi-colon now??? LOL
This was very painful and hard, and now am learning about the colostomy bag, I'm still alittle confused changing it, but hubby, bless him, knows more about it then I do, and has emptied it for me today, and even wants to change it, he really has been a godsend.
Wow..I thought I was going to die that night, but I pulled through, I said my prayers, and the surgeon was very pleased at the outcome, and chemo was put off for a month till my wound heals. My onc sent someone from her team, to let me know it may have been due to the avastin? and may take me off it, but I don't know why yet, she'll talk to me about it next month, but he also said everything looked great...my blood counts and all, and no positive lymph nodes? I think he meant I don't have any cancer in the lymphs.
Thank you for posting, I had to come on here and make sure you all know I am just recovering now and learning how to use my new bag, this should be interesting, I'm in pain, but it should be healed in about a month they said
Hope all is well with you all!! XOXOX

So good to hear that they caught it in time and you took that extra precaution to go to the second hospital. I just came home a couple days ago with an ileostomy so I'm getting used to that too.
Don't push it even though you see things that might be needing attending to. I did that yesterday and now I'm suffering today.
Glad to have you home! Hope you recover quickly.

As you can see here and on Facebook, we have been worried about you! Sounds like you have been to hell and back! You are one strong gal and I pray you will continue to heal and strengthen. That is really good news the surgeon was able to get everything out. I know your family is breathing a sigh of relief to have you back home! Sounds like you have a great support team and that will definitely go a long way in helping you to recover! Remember to take it easy when you need to and keep us posted when you can!

This is why we drive 2 hours to my treatments..the local hospitals suck, and don't specialize in cancers, but my aunt, who used to work at that hospital said anytime a cancer patient comes in complaining of pain, they are to immediately at least have an X-ray taken, that was a waste of time and money there... it was like 10:00 p.m. by the time we got to The James, had my surgery around midnight, the chief surgeon did my sx.
Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers, you're all in mine as well!
Huggssss!

Whenever I had complications, all my friends and family would say "every time you get one step forward, you have to take two steps back"
I always just grinned and said nothing. I hadn't really thought about it like that and still don't. Complication are a part of treatment. There is no 1 step forward 2 steps back with this disease.
From the day you are diagnosed until the day you die you are a cancer survivor. There is no backwards. Keep on keeping on.0 -

I know Bob already responded, but I wanted to drop you a note and let you know I'm glad you're okay - I was worried.
Gosh, you had quite the ordeal! Sounds like you are in good spirits in spite of all you have been through - good for you.
