to all my sisters fighting the fight, PLEASE READ
It cannot suppress memories. It cannot silence courage. It cannot invade the soul. It cannot steal eternal life. It cannot conquer the spirit.
Being a victim is a state of body. Being a survivor is a state of mind. A victim fears hair falling out. A survivor knows bald is beautiful. A victim knows about feeling down. A survivor knows feeling down is OK. A victim dreads the side effects of treatment. A survivor wonders how to cancel his membership in the Side Effect of the Month Club.
A victim is amazed at all the tears. A survivor never leaves home without Kleenex. A victim goes to "see" a doctor. A survivor "consults" with his or her physician. A victim gets caught in despair; A survivor prays a lots.
A victim feels helpless. A survivor says "thanks" with dignity and grace. A victim enjoys a good laugh. A survivor loves one. From the moment we are diagnosed, we are victimes. We must choose to be survivors.
WITH ALL MY LOVE

Tami, thank you for a beautiful post. It is times like this that I am so thankful for having found this board, and for being able to be a part of such a gracious, uplifting group. Your words really hit home for me today, as I needed a lift from the ever so present thoughts that go on in my mind. Your words sent me back to reality, and the hope and prayer that things will get better. Thank you so much.

you're so right
You are so right. I want to tell the group something powerful (at least to me): a few months before my cancer diagnosis, I was crying at home because I felt very lonely. I had been feeling that I didn't have enough friends, and my best friend, my father, had died of chronic leukemia. I really do believe that God has a plan, because since my cancer diagnosis, I have felt much closer to other people (for example, this group)! It cannot be a coincidence that I felt so lonely and now I feel so connected to people.
Cancer is not a 'gift,' as people say (if this is a gift, please take it back!), but it has changed me in ways that are incredible. It has made me want to reach out to other women and help people: I plan to volunteer on the Y-Me hotline (have any of you used this 24 hour hotline: it is wonderful) as soon as I meet the requirement of being a year out of treatment.

I really want to reach out. Please send me more info on the y me hot line. love ya0 -
Y Me Hotline
The phone number of the Y Me Breast cancer hotline is 1-800-221-2141. If you call, someone will answer 24 hours and you ask about their volunteer opportunities and training. You can either volunteer to be on their hotline, or you can be a 'match' for them to refer people to you who have your particular type of bc and want to talk.

thank you for that information. I will use it. how are you doing? I saw your new doo. What do you think? I like it. As a matter a fact, my hair regrowth 18 months after my final chemo looks great even if I do say so myself. Its got gray I just dye but the great part is that it is so curly. Its past my shoulders and I wash it, add a bit of gel or moose to it and Im oout the door. People who didnt know me bald ask if I have a perm. I tell them its natural haha. The bald spots that seemed reluctant to grow at first, are all filled in. love ya0 -

Tami, thanks for lifting my spirits. I've been wondering when I go from surviving to being/feeling like a survivor. I feel like I'll be in survivor mode forever! But know at some point I'll wake up and say "I made it"
I have 2 more chemo treatments before rads, the next one is April 1. I am beginning to see the light at the end. I admire all of the survivors on this board!!
God Bless

I'm rooting for you, Jackie. The fifth one will fly by. I have my final chemo this Friday. I can hardly believe it. It seems like yesterday that I found this site and wrote my first post about how I couldn't go on with my life. Everyone reached out to me and it was those first posts that got me through some of my darkest days. Here's to ending treatment and being survivors. Love you all.

I want to celebrate with you and all my sisters here. Let's have a virtual party on Friday!! I went for my rads simulation last Friday (it was easy, no sweat) and will start the 33 treatments on May 4th. If I feel OK between the last chemo and the beginning of rads, my husband and I want to take a short vacation for some much-needed rest and relaxation. I can't wait until we celebrate the last chemo for you and Moopy, coming up soon!!0 -

I am sorry about your platlets, Jackie, but I'm sure you'll be good to go on Friday. We have quite a crew tomorrow: you, me, Moopy, Katreena (I think). Anyone else?
I would love to join a chat one of these days, but I've never done one. How do you get on? As celebratory as I feel now, I don't think I'll be whooping it up over the weekend. Once, I start to recover though -- watch out!
Good luck to all!! Love you guys.
