I have been visiting with nutritionalist at the health food store, and she has suggested I try hemp hearts to produce energy. She says that physical weakness is a demand for fuel. The hemp hearts are primarily unprocessed protein, and are the most concentrated source of essential nutrients known. My question, is there any problem with eating this while fighting breast cancer. Does anyone have any input on this? Hugs

    Hemp
Judy, I think it's a good idea to ask the doctor about any food you are not familiar with. I have had hemp milk during chemo and generally like it. It has a good balance of omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids. I usually stick with rice milk though because, unlike hemp milk, it does not have saturated fat. Anyway, I would be interested if others have any input on this. Anything for more energy...

I don't know, but, just ask
I don't know, but, just ask your doctor first. We have to check with them just to be sure it would be ok.

I don't believe it has any
I don't believe it has any estrogenic properties, if that is what you're concerned with. Actually I haven't seen it mentioned anywhere from the cancer agencies but it's a food still on the sidelines and so hasn't hit "mainstream" yet. I don't usually trust the advice of health food store personnel as they get their info much the same way our docs get theirs and that's from the company reps who sell the product. But it is a good protein and apparently has a good fatty acid profile. If you have a nutritionist at your cancer clinic, they might be the one to ask. Good luck.
