It has been awhile....
On another note, I have two friends currently fighting for their lives after valiantly fought battles. One is very spiritual, the other is not, but both of them have the same thing in common, a horrible, aggressive disease called cancer. Although I have not been contributing too much lately due to my travelling and frequent trips to the hospital, I have read how some very good, supportive, kind people are feeling that they should no longer contribute due to differences of opinions or hurt feelings. Please, let bygones be bygones, and remember what has brought us all together to this site. Monica

So great to hear from you and good to know that you are doing better. Katie and I have been thinking about you lately and wondering how you are. Drop us a note if you get some time. You're in Miami, right? You know we're doing ColonPalooza in Cayo Hueso this year! Katie and I are being transferred to Key West this summer. Maybe we can get together!
Be well and, again, great to hear from you!

Hello Monica!!!
I cannot tell you how wonderful it is to see your post!!! Your words are not only beautiful, but they just give me another reason to admire you. You are one of my cancer heroes. You were going through cancer at the time when I was first diagnosed (and logged on here) and I admired your strength, your fortitude and your tenacity.
Glad to see you are doing well, although I'm bummed to see you are still fighting. Just know that Bob and I are in your corner and will always send you well wishes, warm thoughts and prayers.
Hugs to you, Monica - please stay in touch...

Hi Bob: I hail from much frostier parts (a small town just north of Toronto, Canada). I was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina and moved to Canada when I was 11 (a very, very long time ago). I have been wanting to come to ColonPalooza, but each year I have had pesky surgeries, treatments, etc. I am really hoping that this will be the year where I can meet you all. Plus, how can I resist a place called Cayo Hueso!! I picture banana daiquiris with little umbrellas. Monica0 -

Hello Betina!
Very nice - we will certainly have to have lunch or dinner in Key West this summer! And do think about joining us for CP7, even if it's just for the official kick off party. I know you will enjoy meeting everyone - it is always a good time full of fun and friendship.
Hoping all is well with you and yours...

That's right! Sorry about that. It would be great to finally meet you and your family. We will be in KW the last week of April and first week of May while I assume command of a ship. Then I head to sea for a couple months and Katie returns to Charleston. We "officially" move down to Key West the first week of July. When do you think you'll be down?

Does Katie have family there? My family and I were there just after Hugo hit until 99. My best friend in the world lived there until she passed last year. My oldest daughter and her family, my little brother and his family and a few friends are still in the area and I go there as often as possible! In fact, the company I work for is based on James Island but I certainly only visit there virtually! We lived in Summerville and guess what is this weekend? Flowertown Festival! I'm jealous cause my youngest is heading down for it, but I will be there for Easter so I am staying close to home for Palm Sunday!

Katie's family lives on the left coast (of course if you ask her it's the "right" coast) in SoCal (she swears "SoCal" is a work, but you can only pronounce it correctly if you're wearing flip-flops and toting a surf board - guess I'm doomed to mispronounce it forever)
We live in Mount Pleasant (but when the wind is blowing from the pulp plant in North Charleston it isn't quite so "pleasant"). We've been here for about two years so it's time to transfer. We don't really do Spring cleaning in Coast Guard families - we just move. We were actually talking about heading out to Summerville this weekend for Flower Fest - maybe we'll pick up a boquet of daffodils! Funny, I used to live in Gloucester, VA where they proclaim themselves to be the daffodil capital of the world and have an annual daffodil fest, but I didn't know about the daffodil-cancer link. The amazing things you learn here.
So does the "ms" stand for "Miz" or does it stand for Mississippi? I used to live in Ocean Springs and served in a ship out of Pascagoula.

I have family out there as well! And I know what you mean about no spring cleaning; i am a Navy brat and then my husband was a career Navy guy as well. ms are my initials, but it would do just as well for Ms. but not mississippi, never lived there! My twin was stationed at Pascagoula, and I've certainly traveled there (once on the back of a bike with a friend which was an interesting trip!). And, being that I lived in Summerville for 9 years, it originally was called Flowertown Festival, then I think they changed it to Azalea Festival ... are you telling me they are now calling it Flower Fest? I think I saw a link that is still calling it Flowertown Festival, but it was from a local as well, and you out of towners always seem to call it the wrong thing . Enjoy!
