Cabbage for Colon Cancer?

Hiya.I have seen lots of positive stuff over the years regarding the benefits of eating certain foods and I have no doubt that there is some weight in it. Our resident gastronomical guru's here, Emily and Scouty as well as others, are living proof that vegies and fruits , a la natural are highly beneficial in our fight against this crappy disease.Having said that, there are so many claims from reserchers that specific foods contibute to the cure of cancer I think that until someone comes up with some "absolute" evidence then all "natural foods" in my mind have got to be beneficial to us. That is not to say that eating cabbage every day won't help..it may well be the vegetable that kicks cancers butt.To quantify my reasoning here..read on.
I have seen 2 publications recently that advocate eating/drinking specific foods "can" prevent the onset of cancer. Both were researched in trials. Here is my view on one food.(the other was kiwi fruit)
Milk; the article stated that drinking a glass of milk a day is a very good preventative for colon cancer and for post cancer patients.I drank at least a litre of milk every day of my life and still got colon cancer?...go figure?..maybe I drank too much.
I guess it is my attitude here that may be wrong but, my mother died from brain cancer..never smoked or drank.
I really do think that eating healthily has a lot to do with our ability to avoid cancer..or..ward it off, as stage 3-4 survivors, Emily, Scouty and others have fought so hard to do. Nonetheless I also think that throughout our lives we are all subjected to "un-natural" food/drink and artificial things that our genetic make-up is going haywire. If the research says cabbage is good for curing cancer...by all means eat tha stuff! Whether there is solid proof to that effect, I doubt it.
It is a bit like the claims that vitamin c wards off the common cold..maybe it does/maybe it does not..but it can't hurt taking it, in moderation as with all things.
But that spiel was all my personal opinion.

Hi All: Cabbage has always been a gassy vegetable, so maybe that is the ticker to get (blow) it out... I am doing a Juice PLus vitamin doage:2 of the Orchard blend in AM and PM is the garden blend, good stuff all the stuff we don't get in our daily intake, I feel so good too but also just finished chemo a month ago so maybe it is just getting back to my ol self even at stage IV, Just crossing fingers it doesn't come back somewhere else, right now I feel pretty good, still tired but hanging in there so ya know there is hope especially after doing chemo twice in a row in a year, last bout was 7 months so go me!!!
Best to all Amy0 -

HI _
I know this is an older post but I noticed you take juice plus - I just started it - are you still on? Any idea what it has or has not done for you?0 -
LOL- cabbage and gas
I've always heard about cabbage being healthy. I hadn't heard about it re. to cancer, but like someone else already said, it certainly can't hurt you other than perhaps gassing others around you out!
I love cabbage. Interesting about (from someone else's post) how the green vs. the purple cabbage seem to have different attributes. I think I'll be buying some cabbage (and maybe some beano along with it-
Blessings,

cabbage is a cruciferous vegetable and contains cancer fighting compounds. I have a book foods that fight cancer and it talks alot about how eating cabbage and broccoli etc.. can ward off cancer and recurrences..

I've never tried it, but a friend from back home was diagnosed just before I was (stage iv) and her oncologist had her take Juice Plus until she started chemo. I'm glad to say that she is NED. Also, I was interested to see what had happened to Slammer, so I checked her posts. She posted in May of 2008 and was doing great. Another great story!
