I keep waiting for one of the teams to ask me to.
When I was diagnosed with cancer, I thought "Wow; I'm a Relay for Life dream-come-true, a professional fundraiser with cancer!" But no one has contacted me yet, probably out of respect for my still being in treatment. It's funny about Relay for Life. I used to read the $$ totals these local teams were raising and complain that so much money was going out of the local community and would end up being a little drop in a bottomless well,... meanwhile we have so many pressing needs in our local community that the $100,000 they raised could fully fund for a year. Now I feel differently.

Do you have a team? I don't want my own team this year, as I really am not up for it, but when I'm out of treatment I want to be active with my local team. And this year I'll show up as a 'survivor' if anyone invites me.

I had a friend ask me
A friend from work asked me to do the survivors lap this spring. She and her SIL have a team. I'm looking forward to it, she hasn't let me know the date yet.

I want you on my team!! Both of you. All of you.
I have been active since I found out I had cancer. We have a hoot!! The first year I joined all my neighbors team, It was already up and running. They were called the Happy Hookers. Casting for a cure. I had a little hurdle with that, I made up a speech using all of the Mn fish names as puns etc. It was read over the radio as our team did their lap around the park. In the end it was hilarious. We all had fish hats and rods and reels in the walk. Many Many things go through your mind when all of the survivors make that first lap as a group. I always get tears when the balloons are let loose. I feel like they are the spirits of the friends who are not walking with us anymore. I have so many good friends missing and family missing now. We camp out there at our beautiful park and walk all night. The illuminary lights are awesome. Many of the local businesses bring food for all night and a wonderful breakfast as we clean up. I think we usually make over $45,000.00. We have a town of 5000 So Linda will you be on my team? How about you Deanna?

    Started My Own Team
I'm going to do it for the first time this year. Ours is being held in May. My teams name is "An Army Against Cancer". I can't wait to get started, it sounds like a lot of fun!

I hope you take pictures for all of us to see. Have you heard about or seen how the schools have a color it purple day? I would like to know more about that too. I have to reseach some more on it. What I did read sounded like a way for kids to get involved too. God bless your army!!

I've been involved in Relay for Life since 2002. I missed the 2005 relay because the day of the relay I was just being discharged from the hospital after my DX. I begged my sister to take me over to the relay site "just to say hi"--didn't go over real well with her.
I couldn't find a team to join in 2006 and 2007. I was part of my employer's team in 2008--but this year I'm teamed up with my Cancer survivor's club team and it's going to be awesome!!!!

    great!!
Hope you get lots of people, donations and pictures too!! It really can be an awesome event. It would be fun to have all of us post as many pictures as we can about our relays. Sorry you did not get to the relay when you were so sick. What area are you from?

    I'm in Morgantown, WV (Goooo Mountaineers!!!!!!!!!)--sorry it's a reflex.lol.
I'm going to try to get some of the pictures from the past relays uploaded to my participant page. I also made what I call a video scrapbook of the 2008 Relay (slide show with background music). I burned it to a dvd for my former team captain. Another member of my team this year is doing the same for this year's relay.
Believe me, I'm going to get plenty of pictures. I have a 10.7 megapixel camera and a 4gig memory card--I may even get a second card--yeah I'm loaded for bear. lol

    Balloon release
That part is the most emotional for me. At our relay last year and again this year, instead of a balloon release we did a "sponsor a dove" fundraiser. You sponsored a dove for a donation in the name of a loved one effected by cancer. The names were read before the Survivors Lap. Then the doves were released. These doves were trained to fly in a group in a lap around the entire Relay event site. Last year they were only supposed to fly one lap, but the 'lead' bird took the flock on an additional lap. It was beautiful!!!

Considering starting my own team for next year!
I was going to have a team this year, but after delayed chemo today I decided to wait until next year. I am already registered for the survivor banquet and lap for the relay here in Springfield, Missouri. So this year, I will just go participate, but next year I am planning to have my own team. I even had my husband really excited about it, but we are still going to go and do the survivor lap. I'm excited about that. I will try to take pictures at ours too.
