Made it through my first
Made it through my first chemo Feb. 24. I remember how scared I was! But, it was not as bad as I thought it would be. I am on taxotere and cytoxin. My next chemo is tomorrow. I am not looking forward to it, I hope I react the same as last time. Take a book or a CD to listen to. Keeps your mind off things....(Of course I listen to Celine Dion!) You will be ok, I'm sure, I was. Hang in there. We can get through this together. Love and Peace my sister.

Darlene, You can do this! One of our lovely sisters in pink (moopey) gave me some advice before my first treatment that made all the difference in the world to me, so I am going to pass it on to you and hope that it helps you as much as it did me. I was scared to death of having chemo. I lost my 1st husband to lung cancer 8 years ago. The only experience I had with chemo was watching him go thru it. His was not a good one. I think they have come along way with medications in 8 years. I have not had anything near what he went thru. Anyway I was getting ready to go for my 1st treatment thinking oh god they are going to pump all this poison into me and I will be so sick. Well Moopy changed all that. She told me to try and keep my mind opened and think of the drugs as Warriors. That they would come into my body and help me fight this battle. Such a simple statement, but it changed my whole thinking. I now welcome those drugs into my body everytime and tell them to get in there and fight like hell. I sure hopes this helps you as much as it helped me. Love Nancy0 -
After your first chemo you
After your first chemo you will see how your body reacts and that should be a baseline of how it should go with the next ones. Everyone has a diff. exper. It is so much better after the first because you know what to expect.
Are you getting the neulastra shot? I got the shot the day after each chemo, so I don't know if the chemo or the shot was making me feel like I had the flu. My next chemo I will not get the shot so I will see what the chemo by itself does.
I chew alot of gum to get rid of the bad taste. Also I eat small snacks instead of regular meals. I do not like to let my stomach get empty because then I get a little sick. As other posters say Drink Drink Drink water.
Big Hug to all who are starting this journey. Remember we have all been there.0 -

Everything went well. all three meds (TAC). Anti nausea meds are good. Just tired. Feeling a little nausea not bad. Took nausea pill waiting to kick in. Get the Neulasta shot tomorrow at 11am. This Journey is rough. But we get through this with faith.
Thank you
God Bless

Way to Go!!!! the first one is the worst (in my opinion) because of the fear of the unknown. Once we learn what to expect it seems to relieve alot of the anxiety and become more of a routine. I love what Nancy and Moopy (my dear friends) said about thinking about the little warriors in there fighting for us. Faith WILL get us through. Be kind to yourself, get lotsa rest and drink lots of H2O.
sweet and peaceful dreams to you tonight.

it will be okay
Darlene, I don't know if my experience is typical, but I'll tell you some news that will make you hopeful: I had almost NO side-effects from chemo. I did not feel nauseous at all or even tired, and I worked the whole time. In the beginning I was taking a day off from work right after the chemo, but then when I saw I felt okay, I stopped doing that and just went to work. I had four treatments of Taxotere/Cytoxan. The only thing I do remember is that I had a very bad taste in my mouth which went away when the chemo was done.
Good luck to you, and I'll be thinking of you!

The first one is scary because of the fear of the unknown. I thought I would never get through it, but on Friday I completed my 5th (out of 6) treatment. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel now, and so will you. No one said this journey was easy, but with each other's help we all get through it.0 -
Believe it or not!
This will cetainly be difficult to believe, but I promise its the TRUTH~ I was talking with some longtime Survivors ( between 1~ 6 years out of treatment) and we honestly can't even remember how bad/good/scary/time-consuming etc etc etc it all was. It has faded into a blur of something that happened to us on our way to Life After Breast Cancer. It certainly doesn't mean that it all magically disappeared from our memories entirely, but I was shocked to find that it isn't in the forefront of them either! YAY
So...just know that you absolutely will get through all of it, and even these fears will receed.
We walk with you, sister~ keep posting and know you aren't by yourself!
Hugs,

I second Claudia. I'm 5
I second Claudia. I'm 5 years out and can't remember that much. Details are gone. Maybe I'm just getting old but ...I don't think so. So try to do as many good enjoyable things as you can during this time and that is what you will remember. I think they call it substituting memories. Or maybe that is after the fact. Anyway, just take one day at a time and soon it will be over.0
