Milestone reached...kinda

Well, my husband just completed his 3rd round of chemo this morning. At this point, he will have another round of scans to see if surgery can be done. We meet with the surgical oncologist next Friday. He's tolerated the chemo fairly well. He's on eripibucin (sp), oxaliplatin and Xeloda. His hair has thinned but he had it cut really short at the start of all this as not to shock our kids. His blood count is up (above 10) which is good. He was below 9 when he was diagnosed. So I am already declaring that he will have surgery sometime next month. And we can get on with the rest of our lives.

    Glad to hear the treatments
    Glad to hear the treatments seem to be going well so far. I hope and wish that your husband can go finish the treatment and continue moving forward. We all know waiting is an extremely hard part as a patient or caregiver. I myself applaud you for supporting your husband as I know without my wife and kids the treatment would have been exponentially more difficult to deal with.

    I am so glad he is tollerating the chemo, I went thu almost one year of chemo before they would perform the stomach surgery on me. I had the surgery Oct. 3, 2009. I have recovered from the surgery fairly well and I am working on maintaining my weight. The first three months after surgery I had the tests done and there was no sign of cancer at that time. I will go again in May for the second set of tests. Wish me good luck.

    So DJ, you were actually on chemo for a full year before surgery. What were the reasons? Did the tumor not respond or not shrink enough? Just wondering. I posted in another thread that my husband's tumor did not respond to the first go at chemo. He was on Xeloda, oxiliplatin and eripibucin (sp). Were you on radiation as well? Sorry for all the questions but it's so good to be able to talk with people who are going thru or went thru the same thing.
