had my catheter out last monday--everything was fine till last night--had severe bladder spasm again--took two percocet---didnt help--then emergency room, where everything calmed down. i went home after 3 hours and slept well.

doc did say that in my urine sample it showed some bacteria, blood, protein.

so--i am continuing my antibiotic.

any one have suggestions on how to avoid these blasted unexpected bladder spasms?

thanks

    Bladder spasms.
Hi, marteau, I was prescribed Hyomax for the spasms, and it worked well for me. It would settle the bladder down usually in about 10 to 15 minutes. I hope this helps, as those spasms are not much fun.

for how many days/weeks after surgery did you have spasms? were they correlated at all with diet, exercise, or anything else?

    Spasms
Mine lasted for about a week and a half. The worst were the first week, some would make me want to crawl the walls. I ate what I wanted, which was what the doctor said would be okay. They were not a problem after the catheter removal. They gave me a syringe to deflate the bulb in the bladder, and I removed it at home. Sure was glad to have that gone. I never could correlate them to anything, so my assumption was the catheter. The spasm medicine that they prescribed did work well, as I said, even on the times when I would have pain that would bring tears. The main thing is they did go away after the cath was gone. I am still working thru the leakage, but it is down to a pad or two a day now. Expect the first couple of days to leak alot, at least that was how mine went. Keagels do work, if slowly. I read from another post about a book called beyond keagels, and I recieved it the other day. It lists and shows about three more exercises to do, and I will begin those soon. I will let you know if they help. Another thing that makes control harder to maintain is caffine. I enjoy iced tea, and if I drink it too much, I have more control problems. Just a thought. Today was one of those days, with lots of tea. Oh, well, tommorrow is another day! Take care, and let me know how it goes for you.

    spasms decreasing--
last one was Wed eve. (two days after catheter removal)--went to emergency room because of the pain. but, bladder was fine, vitals good and pain went away naturally.

today is Saturday. i do carry a bottle of percocet pills with me, in case those dreaded spasms reoccur.

everything i read and hear from professionals says to avoid spicy foods and caffeine (makes one pee). am getting used again to mashed potatoes which have needed nutrients and are easy to digets. also, fresh veggie soup. more fish. no red meat. drinking two to three liters of water/cranberry juice a day.

still a lot of leakage when i am walking around.
