Thyroid Cancer Chat
There is a thyroid cancer chat in Room 2 on Monday nights between 8-9 PM Eastern Standard Time. Any patient or caregiver or interested party is welcome to attend. We do not exclude other cancer survivors from this chat, we merely try to stay on thyroid cancer topics to assist those in dealing with this type of cancer which is not treated the same as others. Thanks!

balancing hormonal levels
Hi everyone,
My sister is a thyroid cancer survivor (4 years) and is doing generally well, but lately her doctor has been having a hard time balancing her levels and she is feeling tired and her mood and weight have been constantly fluctuating. She has had a hard year emotionally, could this be a factor? Also, are there things she could do or use to help her body into balance, ie: alternative things like meditation, herbs, foods, etc
Any suggestions are hugely appreciated!
Thanks

Disappointed
So I went into chat tonight, I actually had tonight off. I have to say that I was disappointed. Only one other person showed up and that was valvester who was looking for more than just my support. I was really looking forward to being able to chat with others who have thyroid cancer. Even though the many people that I have met and call friends in chat are there to support me I would have really enjoyed being able to talk with others who have walked down the same road that I have. thank you valvester for trying to join the chat and I appologize on behalf of others who didn't make the chat happen tonight.

Hi, My name is Caitlin and I was diagnosed on May 6 of 08, total thyroidectomy on the 12 (which turned out to be a good decision as the cancer had spread to the thyroid tissue itself so it saved me from a second surgery) and then had to do 2 months of external beam radiation therapy (unusual for thyroid cancer) followed by RAI in Oct and my first follow up scan in Jan. My scan came back totally clean and my thyroglobulin levels are almost zero. So I'm pretty lucky. I hope that is some help in regards to your question about being cancer free. The good news is that most forms of thyroid cancer are very very treatable. The bad news is that they treated the CRAP out of it!!! LOL
As for a chat room, I work monday nights or I'd love to check it out. But I'm on myspace and there is a good thyroid cancer support group on there. They don't have a chat group (yet, but it's a good idea) but there are some very nice people on there and I made a lot of new friends. Just knowing that I wasn't going through it alone and having a bunch of people to talk to who were in all different stages of treatment made such a huge difference. I hope that is helpful to you! Good luck!
PS. You might also want to check out www.thyca.org. they have a person to person network and could try to match you up with someone to talk to who has been through what you're going through.1 -

I have had thyroid cancer for one and a half years. In March of 2008 I had RAI treatment and surgery in January 2008. I would like to communicate with anyone who is going through this. Tomorrow is my PET scan, after completing a neck ultra-sound,body scan, and chest x-ray, which were incomplete.Does the testing ever end? Thank you for any comment. Take Care. Sue0 -
