Hi, all, I just talked to the nurse about my sore throat today. I am to go in for labwork tomorrow--if I can avoid temperature and ER tonight. I am scared. I know some of you have mentioned having infections. I just had my Nulssta shot yesterday. Please let me know anything you can tell me.

Thanks

    Definitely talking to your
Definitely talking to your medical team is the best thing to do, and waiting for answers is hard to do, but I know that many chemo treatments can cause sores in the throat, nasal passages, mouth, and other things. you can go to chemocare.com to look up specific chemo drugs to see if yours is one of the ones that might cause your symptoms. I hope you find help soon.

    Infection, Neulasta, etc
Awww....don't let it scare you honey~ you have already come sooo far! IF you have an infection, you will get antibiotics, and you will be on your way to being fine!
As for the Neulasta~ it does do what it is designed to do, but for me, the pain involved ( about 36 hours after the injection) was worse than chemo! It speeds up white cell count, but squeeeezes it out of the bone marrow like a vice grip on a tube of toothpaste! All 206 bones of my body ached for 4 to 5 days while this mega-cell production was happening! But due to having it, I never missed a chemo infusion.

Hang on sweetie~ you will get through this just fine!

    Hugs,
    Claudia

    Prayin for you Moopie
Sorry to hear of your sore throat. Are you still doing the salt/baking soda thing? I have not had to have the Nulssta shot yet, so don't know much about it. I am praying that you will not get a temp. and that antibiotics will take care of it. Sorry i can't tell you anything except that i am here for you and will mention you to Jesus when we have our talk tonight.
    God Bless

Oh, Lisa...your immune system is probably still just fine. You did right by mentioning it to the nurse, they can do an end run around the sore throat FAST!!

    Thrush
    Hi Moopy,
I had a very sore throat after my first infusion - and every one thereafter. I had thrush in my throat. I didn't get it in my mouth first as I had been rinsing with baking soda and salt. After the first time, I just called my onc and got a prescription for the thrush. I hope your sore throat turns out to be as easy to cure as mine! Antibiotics are wonder drugs! (So are "antifungal" drugs for thrush!)
You are in my thoughts and prayers today.

    Awwwww
I'm so sorry you are not feeling well. I have been having a sore throat on the 3rd and 4th days after each treatment. I read that it is a side effect of one of our treatments. I have been brushing several times a day, that helps some, but by the 5th day it does feel better. I hope that you didn't have to go to the er last night and maybe avoided fever. Rest, as much as possible , you deserve it. Tell Joe to keep us posted on how you are feeling as many of us will keep you in our prayers .

    No Fever!
I am pleased to report that my Moopsy is doing fine this morning. She reports that her throat is still a little sore, but that the salt/baking soda gargle really helps. And NO FEVER!

Best of all, she is definitely her own bad self - rebuking the dogs for being slugs (hey, they're dogs and it's 11 degrees this morning) and getting on my case for not sleeping enough. The onc nurse told her to come in for labs this morning, so I'm going to bundle her up and drag her off to the clinic. Maybe if she behaves herself. I will take her to McDonald's too. We'll see.

Thank you all for your loving concern!

    yeaaaa
She is so lucky , like many of us are, to have very supportive husbands, Keep her warm and comfy also don't be such a big spender! McDonald's???? That is my son's most favorite place in the whole wide world. So at my house it would be considered "spending big".hahaha
Let us know how she does and what the nurse says. Drive safely
    lots of love

    Wonderful News
I'm so glad to hear that Moopsy is feeling better. Dorth will be starting chemo Feb. 17 and I am finding out so much good information from reading the posts from everyone. Take care and please keep posting since it is really a help for those of us who are coming behind you. Our oncologist mentioned the possibility of mouth sores, but I don't believe he said anything about the salt/baking soda mouth wash--I'll have to ask him about that.

Wishing the best for you and Moopsy,

    Jim

    Baking Soda/Salt Rinse
Hi, Jim, for the rinse, just mix 1 part salt and 2 parts baking soda. Use up to 1 teaspoon in 1 warm cup. I do this several times day.

No fever is a good thing.
No fever is a good thing. After my first chemo treatment I did have fever and was hospitalized. Neupenic Fever was the diagnosis and they never found a source of infection. I received Neulasta injections after future chemo treatments and never had a problem again. The side effect of Neulasta was the awful bone aches for several days, which were somewhat relieved with Tylenol or Advil. I dreaded the injections but it kept me safe during the low immunity times.

Tahe care of yourself Moopy. I hope the sore throat goes away. I get mouth and throat sores and lose my sense of taste. Magic Mouthwash with Lydocaine helps with the pain..you can swallow it for the throat.
I get Neulasta after each infusion and everyone is right the bone pain stinks, but well worth the pain to keep infections away.
Let Jo take care of you. I'll be thinking of you.

Moopy, Glad there is no fever, hopefully there is no infection. And tell the big spender that you get MCDonalds no matter what. Of course, knowing your hubby you would anyway. Hope that the throat pain abates soon.

Memory is such a funny thing. I don't remember a sore throat from treatment. I did do the Neulasta shot, and really it didn't cause bone pain for me, although I know it can. I never got a fever or infection and my wbc was always good at chemo time. Thinking positive thoughts...Lynn
