Hey, guys. I posted a question on the stomach cancer board, but apparently they're not as active as we are. My sister developed a stomach bruise right after Christmas. Couldn't remember doing anything, but our family bruises easily. She went to the doctor about something else and casually mentioned the bruise. The doctor wanted to do an ultrasound, and that showed a small mass in the stomach (about 1.5cm). The doctor called my sister to tell her this and said her bloodwork was fine, and he didn't have any idea what the mass is. He has obtained a surgeon's appointment for her. Anybody heard of anything like this? Are there other things that can cause something like this? She had a very recent colonoscopy, and that was clear.

    I like that! I think I remember that the most important information is relayed to our doctor during the last minute of the appointment, as he/she is heading out the door! Hopefully the mass will be nothing. I pray for God's strength and comfort.

    More testing needed!
    If the mass is in the stomach, her docs should do an EGD and CT scan BEFORE surgery to have a look and take biopsies. If it's outside the stomach, I would venture to guess a CT scan would be more effective than an ultrasound.

    Is your sister being treated at a major medical center? If not, she should get a second opinion before surgery.

    Thanks for the info. She's not being treated at a major medical center. I believe the surgeon may be going to do an endoscopic procedure. Not positive on that. She's just seeing him first to talk about things.
