Come to Delaware next time for cool mud!
Turkey may have hot mud, but you ought to see the cool mud in the Delaware River at Slaughter Beach. Lovely name there too and it's not made up (I understand that it has nothing to do with actual murder or anything though who knows when you are talking about the second smallest state in the country and the first one to join the Union)! You wouldn't even have to go out of the country to be covered from head to foot in mud that acts as a nursery to prehistoric-looking horseshoe crabs that actually have been in existence since dinosaur days. The crab eggs (often found in May and June) are a lovely lime green shade which contrasts nicely with the sticky dark brown mud just offshore of the sandy beach. Black mussels stick up here and there adding to the picture. Last but not least are the thousands of wild birds flocking to the shore to dine off the crab eggs. My husband has pictures of his sisters and himself in the Delaware Bay, but his pictures are considerably more muddy than yours. So if you want mud, come to Delaware next time. We have plenty!
