Meet with the C doc!

So we meet with the oncologist today wasnt the news I was hoping for that is for sure.

The break down is a course of Chemo for 18 wks going in once every 3 wks then during that we will have Herceptin for a full YEAR. After the 18 weeks I have to decide rather I would want Rads and or a double mastectmy if I were to choose Rads would be everyday for 7 weeks and if not we would remove my breast and have reconstructive surgery after that. I am not 100% on board with that just yet however I do have 4 months to decide. I also have to take tamoixen ( HORMANAL THERAPY) not sure I am spelling that right as I am going off doctors notes now. I will take this after Chemo is done for 5 years.

The Chemo is Carboplztin/taxtere again not sure if spelling is correct there.

NOT AT ALL WHAT I WANTED TO HEAR FROM HER.. I WAS HOPEING FOR A QUICK ZAP A FEW TIMES AND BE DONE WITH IT.

I will write more later after today I far from feeling like sitting here right now.

    Those oncologists can really tick you off can't they? They just never say anything that you want to hear!! Mine didn't either. As depressing as it is just know that all those cancer cells are going to get blasted and a new you is on the other side. Keep us posted and know we are all thinking of you and wishing you the best.

    Just hang in there, and
    Just hang in there, and before you know it the 18 weeks will be behind you. Just be sure that you listen to your onc, and keep yourself well rested, hydrated, and eat properly. Keeping up your strength is very important during this next period of time, and you will be able to get through it much easier if you take care of "you" right now. Know that when you have questions, there are lots of wonderful people on this board who have been where you are now, and have lots of experience and hints for a better coping process that they are glad to pass along. You are now one of us, and believe me when I say that one of your main strengths will come from joining this group. Being where you are now for most of us has been eye opening, as well as humbling. I will keep you in my prayers.

    Oh, that's a bummer. I know that's not what you wanted to hear from your oncologist. But you will get through it......and before you know it you will be done with everything, including Herceptin.

    I can say that because next week is my LAST Herceptin treatment. I'm just finishing up my year with it.

    I am sorry you didn't hear the news you wanted to hear J, but it is doable and you will get through it with all our help. I also did mastectomy and 8 rounds of adriamycin/cytoxan/ and 5FU which was HELL, but I got through it and so will you. I am happy to say that yesterday, 12/17/08 I finished my reconstruction. You will get there also. I am also on Tamoxifen for 4 more years and it isn't as bad as I thought it would be. I take 10 mg twice a day. You have time to decide where you want to go with this and only you know what is the best choice for you. God bless, Lili

    You have some very brave ladies to follow....
    There are many on this board that have faced what you are...and know what you are going thru. I offer my hugs, but I was HER2/NEU negative, so no Herceptin for me. Lean on us here, together we are one of the best tumor boards around!!!

    PS...I saw my radiation nurse yesterday, a double breast cancer survivor, who repeated what I had taken to heart...."There is no wrong decision. Whatever you decide at the time is right at the time. No regrets".

    sorry bout the news
    8 rounds wow, i had 4 every 3 wks. what stage i had the masc in march o8. taxotere and cytoxin. my spelling sucks too. anyway you'll get thru it some ups and downs but believe.dee

    Hey Lili,

    CONGRATULATIONS TO YOU AND THE NEW GIRLS! (Thought you'd just sneak that one by us, huh?)

    I don't know about you, but if it were me (and I hope to be there some day), I'd be counting the days until I could go shopping for new duds for the perky new twins!

    Besides being ER/PR positive, I also have a very active, positive shopping gene. (And the cure for that is WAAAYY more fun than Tamoxifen or Arimidex!

    I was stage 1 Dee, but they
    I was stage 1 Dee, but they found some "c" cells in the blood vessels in the breast so they decided to go full swing with the chemo. Hugs, Lili

    I can't get one by ya huh? LOL. I have to say they do look much better. I still think he is going to have to fill in a little more on the top once the fat graphs settle but we shall see. I go back Monday and will take it from there. Hugs, Lili
